King's Hawford

PA Firework Extravaganza goes with a bang!

The weather ahead of this year’s PA Firework Extravaganza certainly kept everyone guessing; during set-up, the team encountered everything from torrential downpours to blue skies! Luckily, the weather was unable to dampen the enthusiasm of the King’s Hawford community, who turned out in force for this year’s event.

The PA Fireworks is an extremely popular and long-standing event and is a wonderful example of the brilliant community we are lucky to enjoy here at King’s Hawford. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of our Parents’ Association, those in attendance enjoyed a fantastic evening, which culminated in an impressive firework display.

From 5pm, the school site started to fill with parents, pupils, friends and family members, all making their way to the bottom fields. Waterproofs and wellies, which are a staple at King’s Hawford, were definitely required! King’s Hawford children and their families happily embraced the rather sodden ground conditions as they congregated around the refreshment tents. The BBQ proved extremely popular, with hot-dogs, burgers, pulled pork and halloumi flying off the grill.

Mr Callow’s carefully crafted bonfire provided a wonderful backdrop to proceedings when it was lit. Mr Roberts took on the role of compere for the evening, and did a wonderful job of keeping everyone well informed. Excitement rose ahead of the fireworks being lit and the assembled crowd joined together for a rousing countdown at 7pm before a hushed silence descended as the first few fireworks shot into the air above the School. The silence was punctuated by the whizzes and bangs of the fireworks and audible gasps of delight from the audience.

It is safe to say that the firework display was a true spectacle, and all those in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We are extremely grateful to all members of the Parents’ Association, who work so hard to organise these events. Several members of the PA team had been onsite before the display, ensuring that everything was perfect ahead of the gates opening. We are also most grateful to our dedicated school staff, who each year give up their time to marshal the event, thus ensuring the safety of our guests. Without our high-vis heroes, events such as these would simply not be possible. Mr Callow and Mr Vaughan work tirelessly behind the scenes on events like these, ensuring that the school site is accessible and safe for all guests. We owe them a sincere debt of gratitude for all they do.
