King's Hawford

13 June

Plenty of healthy competition makes Sports Day a success.

As a highlight of the Summer Term for many of our Pre-Prep pupils, last Thursday afternoon King’s Hawford hosted its annual Pre-Prep Sports Day. The sports fields were buzzing with excitement and anticipation, despite the slightly unseasonal weather.

The afternoon began with an optional 200 metre race, which saw a record number of pupils volunteering to take part, before everyone got stuck into a myriad of traditional sports-day races and events, including the ever-popular obstacle races. The sprinting races also proved extremely popular and fast! There was much enthusiasm for the class relay races, which saw a healthy level of competitive spirit fill the sports fields at King’s Hawford, not only from the pupils themselves but also from the parents, friends and families supporting the afternoon. Congratulations to Mr Marsland’s class, who won against Mr Robert’s class, and to the whole of Year 1, whose relay races resulted in a draw!

It was then time for the parents to put on their running shoes and take part in the parents’ obstacle races. If we thought the pupils were competitive, the parents took it to another level! It was fantastic fun to watch; the pupils and staff loved it (and so did the parents really!).

All of the children can be proud of their achievements, as each and every one of them gave of their all and had a fantastic time in the process. We are extremely proud of every one of them, each of whom who thoroughly deserves the medal they all received at the end of the afternoon. The children were then eager to refuel with a delicious ice-cream from the ice-cream van. There was also an opportunity for parents to view and purchase photographs as a memento of hugely successful event.

Well done to all those that took part, children and parents; we are already looking forward to next year’s event.
