Poetry in Action: An Inspiring Workshop for Year 5
This week, Year 5 were treated to a special visit from the Senior School English teachers, who led an inspiring and engaging poetry workshop. Pupils explored a range of poetic techniques, including repetition and metaphor, and studied the poem ‘Valentine’ which compared love to an Onion. They used this poem as a model for their own writing.
The workshop sparked lots of creativity and thoughtful discussion, as pupils experimented with language, imagery and structure before writing their own Valentine poems. The classroom was full of energy and ideas, and it was wonderful to see how confidently pupils applied the techniques they had learned.
The enthusiasm and focus shown by Year 5 were fantastic, and they produced some truly impressive pieces of poetry. A brilliant opportunity to develop both creativity and writing skills, and a workshop the pupils clearly loved.
