Pre-Prep herald the Year of the Dragon

Year Two had a fantastic time learning about Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon with Mrs Ling, a Year Three parent. Mrs Ling kindly gave up her time to teach Year 2 all about this important festival.  They learnt about the traditional foods eaten as part of the celebrations and practised speaking Mandarin too, with phrases such as “Happy Chinese New Year” (“xin nian kuai le”) and “Thank you (“xie xie”).  The children were given a special hongbao (money pouch) each, which they learnt has to be kept sealed for 15 days from the beginning of the festival, to deliver good luck and prosperity to the keeper.  They all enjoyed learning in which year of the Chinese zodiac they were born and learnt they were all roosters or monkeys! Pupils spent time talking about the Year of the Dragon and were fascinated by the wonderful stories Mrs Ling shared. Our sincere thanks to Mrs Ling for all her kindness and generosity.
