Prep Sports Day: athletic endeavour and passion

Our Prep School Sports Day last Friday was another fantastic occasion. We witnessed outstanding levels of effort, resilience and performance from all of the Year Three to Year Six children. The event was the culmination of a fantastic summer term of athletics in PE lessons.

The morning was spent completing field events that had been started in during PE lessons, including the long jump, high jump, shot put and javelin. In the afternoon the lower fields were transformed into a hub of activity. We welcomed spectators for an afternoon of track events including the 50m, 80m, 150m, 200m, 600m and 800m, and spirits were high as pupils waited together for their races. At times the cheering was deafening and it was wonderful to see the support being shown by all pupils for their peers. Mrs Horrocks took charge of the warm-up area and ensured all of the pupils were sufficiently prepared ahead of their races. She must be congratulated on her excellent work, which at times resembled a sponsored yogathon! Well done Mrs H!

During the day pupils approached every event with enthusiasm and determination. A total of six new school records were set during the competition and it was a tired but accomplished group of children who gathered together at the end of the day. Mr Butt was on hand to congratulate all of the children and present the awards from the event. Austin R and Pippa were the recipients of the Junior Victor Ludorum and Junior Victrix Ludorum respectively. The Senior Victor Ludorum went to George O and the Senior Victrix Ludorum went to Erin L. The Kevin Bethel Shot Put Trophy winner was Khaleefah GF.

The overall House results from Sports Day 2023 were as follows:

    • 1st Bredon
    • 2nd Malvern
    • 3rd Kinver
    • 4th Clent
