Protecting Our Oceans: Year 1’s Deep Dive into Plastic Pollution

This half term, Year 1 have dived into the fascinating world of ocean stories as part of their topic ‘Adventures of the Sea’. Two class favourites were Somebody Swallowed Stanley by Sarah Roberts and The Odd Fish by Naomi Jones, both of which helped the children explore the important issue of plastic pollution in our oceans.

A special thank you to Chloe, who brought in Duffy’s Lucky Escape by Ellie Jackson to share with the class. This heartwarming story follows Duffy the sea turtle, who falls ill after mistaking a plastic bag for a jellyfish but is later rescued and rehabilitated. It was a powerful reminder of how our actions can impact marine life.

Inspired to make a difference, Year 1 discussed the importance of recycling and reusing materials. They then created stunning jellyfish artwork using recycled plastic bags for tentacles, a creative way to turn learning into action!

Well done Year 1, for your thoughtful discussions, imaginative work, and for showing such care for our oceans!
