Pupils celebrate King’s Coronation in style with GYM homework!

Pupils at King’s St Alban’s have had immeasurable amounts of fun this week, judging by the fantastic Coronation GYM (Grow Your Mind) homework projects that many of the children have undertaken over the long weekend. It seems that the King’s Coronation definitely captured the imagination of our pupils, with children from all year groups thoroughly embracing the festivities!

As ever, getting creative in the kitchen was a popular option from the themed GYM homework grid. We have seen some mouth-watering Coronation Menu designs, and photos have been shared of some delicious treats such as Coronation Chicken Wraps and ‘Red, White and Blue Cheese Pizza’, as well as some beautifully decorated cupcakes and pavlovas with a Union Flag design.

Coronation themed arts and crafts were an enjoyable way of spending time indoors and avoiding the wet weather. Hand-made festive bunting could be seen decorating many homes and children enjoyed designing and making their own crowns and cyphers and creating their own portraits of King Charles. We even saw a super model of Buckingham Palace, complete with pictures of the Royal Family on the balcony!

Many of our older pupils enjoyed researching the Royal Family and shared informative timelines of British monarchs, with key events from each reign. Some pupils chose to find out more about the King himself, presenting their findings creatively through fact files, PowerPoints and videos. We also enjoyed seeing model trains and aeroplanes created with King Charles in mind, as he is a trained pilot.

It is always lovely to see the children interpret the GYM homework theme and see how creative and inventive they are. This weekend proved no different, with projects such as a Coronation science experiment investigating the effect of red, white and blue food colouring on tulips, and designs of new Coronation plants and flowers.

From planting trees in the garden to commemorate the occasion to creating super drawings depicting street parties, it is clear the children have thoroughly enjoyed their Coronation celebrations. Well done, everyone!
