Pupils Pitch for Charity Support

The King’s Hawford community are renowned for their giving spirit. Each year, pupils work tirelessly to raise money for charity. Over the years we have been able to support a large number of charities locally, nationally and internationally. It is clear that our pupils are particularly passionate about each and every charity they support.

Each year, King’s Hawford supports three different charities; in assembly this morning, Mr Stignant announced that we would be continuing our support of Project Gambia and, in keeping with out eco credentials, we will also be supporting Cool Earth.

Having supported Project Gambia last year, the children at King’s Hawford expressed a wish to continue to support this most worthwhile cause for another year. Bev Hodt (the Founder) has become a regular visitor to the School and we are delighted to see the relationship with Project Gambia developing into a true partnership in which the children see the relevance and impact that their efforts are having.

As a community we are incredibly proud of our status as a green school. Cool Earth exists to give cash directly to rainforest communities to fund projects that create choice, tackle the root causes of deforestation and protect vital carbon sinks. This is our mission: to back people, to protect the rainforest and fight the climate crisis.

As has become our custom, the third charity is selected by the pupils themselves. This year we had four charities put forward by pupils and after pupil presentations in front of the school in assembly, the final decision was put to the pupil vote!

During the assembly, Elliot C, Lyra H and Charles N gave a very confident presentation in support of Habitat UK. Florrie, Orla, Annie and Rosie gave a passionate presentation in support of Midlands Air Ambulance, whilst Jetta, Bella, Holly, Ava I and Ava H gave a lovely presentation seeking support for The British Horse Society.

Following the assembly, pupils voted in classrooms. The charity with the most votes and the one we will be supporting as our third charity is The Midlands Air Ambulance.

We look forward to supporting all three charities over the coming 12 months.
