Pupils Prove that a Singing School is a Happy School

There was an exciting start to Thursday as the whole school gathered in the John Moore Theatre for our annual Prep School Inter-House singing competition.

The first House to take to the stage in the John Moore Theatre was Wilson, with their lively rendition of Happy by Pharrell Williams. Dressed in brightly coloured t-shirts and sporting sunglasses, they made a great start to the competition with some strong part work and lively singing.

They were followed by Thomas, who gave a super two-part performance of Karma Chameleon by Culture Club. Lots of smiles, lively dancing and audience participation made this a real hit with everyone. The red, gold and green pom-poms were brilliantly timed with the lyrics in the song and a great addition to the performance.

Armstrong’s brilliantly choreographed opening to Take on Me by A-ha drew the audience in immediately. Their strong three-part work and enthusiastic delivery made this an impressive performance. This song contains some of the lowest singing we have ever heard in an Inter-House singing competition, and possibly some of the highest too!

The final House to sing was Bailey, who certainly looked the part for their rendition of Revolting Children from Matilda the Musical. Their commanding opening made full use of strong solo voices, and they tackled the considerable demands of this song with confidence and enthusiasm. Hockey sticks and whiteboards were excellent props which helped to make this song a musical theatre extravaganza.

Mr Hudson, the adjudicator, was blown away by the quality of every performance and it was a difficult decision to choose a winner. Many congratulations to Bailey, who were this year’s well-deserved victors.
