King’s St Alban’s receives Readathon recognition.

Each year the pupils of King’s St Alban’s Prep School are always ready and raring to go when it comes to diving into a good book in aid of Read for Good. It is therefore no surprise that the School was excited to receive a much coveted Readathon Plaque in recognition of all of the pupils’ hard work and commitment to reading for pleasure.

Since 2005, King’s St Alban’s has embraced Read for Good Readathons with phenomenal enthusiasm; Readathons were launched in 1983 and aimed at motivating children to read. The current academic year has been no exception, with pupils raising a total of £1,322.50, bringing the King’s St Alban’s grand total to £32,830 raised through a total of fifteen Readathons. Whilst it is believed that one in two schools has run a Readathon at some point since its inception, only a handful have embraced it to the extent that King’s St Alban’s has. Therefore, this is truly an incredible achievement and King’s St Alban’s are delighted to celebrate their achievements and showcase their success by proudly displaying the special Readathon Plaque for all to see. Congratulations to all those who have taken part over the years.

At King’s St Alban’s pupils from Reception to Year Six are encouraged to read daily, with Read for Good’s Readathon motivating them to go the extra mile; the amount of books, both fact and fiction, consumed by the pupils as part of the challenge and throughout the school year is astounding. King’s St Alban’s pupils are lucky to have access to such a vast range of literature, with fully stocked libraries in both the Prep and Pre-Prep Schools. We believe wholeheartedly that there are so many associated benefits that come with a love of reading, not only in terms of academic attainment but also emotional well-being, and look forward to supporting the Read for Good initiative further in the years to come.
