Reception Explore the Fascinating World of Penguins

As part of their ‘Animals in Winter’ topic, our Reception children have had an exciting week learning all about penguins!

The week began with the story Emperor’s Egg, which sparked curiosity about how emperor penguins care for their eggs. The children were fascinated to discover the incredible dedication of adult penguins in keeping their eggs safe and warm. They also wrote down a variety of interesting facts about emperor penguins, proudly sharing their newfound knowledge with family and friends. A particular highlight was learning how adult penguins feed their chicks when they return from the sea, a fact that captivated everyone!

The week concluded with the story Be Brave, Little Penguin, which led to thoughtful discussions about facing fears. Inspired by Pip Pip’s bravery in overcoming his fear of swimming, the children reflected on things they sometimes find a little scary and shared ways they could be brave in similar situations.

It has been a week full of wonder, learning, and reflection, with our Reception children discovering more about the natural world and building confidence along the way.
