Reception’s Exciting ‘Farm to Fork’ Visit to Top Barn Farm

Reception pupils at King’s Hawford had a fantastic day out at Top Barn Farm as part of their ‘Farm to Fork’ topic. Blessed with beautiful sunshine, the children enjoyed a hands-on experience, learning about life on a working farm.

The day began with an exciting tractor and trailer ride around the farm, giving the children a chance to see the animals and the crops growing in the fields. They learned that while most of the maize and wheat had already been harvested, pak choi was still in the ground.

Afterwards, the children visited the chickens, where they had the delightful task of collecting an egg each. Following lunch, they spent time feeding the goats, sheep, and pigs.

The trip concluded with a visit to the farm shop, where each child selected a vegetable to bring back to school, ready for their upcoming soup-making activity.

It was a fun-filled, educational day that gave the children a great insight into where their food comes from and the importance of farming.
