Reception’s underwater adventure

This week Reception went on an underwater adventure with a visit to the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham. The trip was perfectly timed to coincide with the end of Reception’s latest learning topic: Creatures Under The Sea.

As the children boarded the coach Mr Butt was on hand to remind them that jellyfish probably wouldn’t survive long in our new pond…. The children arrived at the Sea Life Centre full of excitement and raring to go.

The first underwater creatures that the children encountered were penguins – the children were fascinated by the playful penguins. During their visit the children saw lots of sea creatures that they have been learning about including rays, sharks, jellyfish and pufferfish. The children were very brave and each stroked a starfish.

The children were very excited to try and spot two very famous fish on their travels. We are pleased to confirm that all of the children managed to spot Nemo and Dory!

The highlight of the trip for many of the children was the underwater tunnel. Through this fully immersive underwater experience the children found themselves transported to the bottom of the sea. The children delighted in watching a colourful array of fish swoop overhead and underfoot! The children got to see lots of toothy shark grins up close. The children were amazed at the size of the giant turtles as they drifted by.

The trip was the perfect end to a fascinating topic for Reception. All of the children were beautifully behaved and excellent ambassadors for King’s Hawford. It is trips like these away from the classroom that really help reinforce the work the children have been doing. Well done Reception!
