Reflecting on the highs of the cricket season
U10 & U11 Girls’ Cricket Team:
The King’s Hawford Years Five and Six Girls’ Cricket Team rounded off an incredible season with an emphatic performance against a strong RGS The Grange side. Whilst Wednesday’s game saw six of the girls take to the field, there have been ten girls who have all made valuable contributions in a highly successful season. In the last three games alone, their confident stroke-play and sensible running lead to them scoring nearly 300 runs in 36 overs of cricket, whilst some quick, accurate bowling restricted some very capable opposition to only 65 runs in total. There have been too many individual, eye-catching performances of note with the bat, ball and in the field to detail, but a special mention should go to Issie F in her first year of keeping wicket, ensuring byes were kept to a minimum in the face of a formidable bowling attack. We shall be sorry to see our truly gifted Year Six cricketers move on next year, but they do so in the knowledge that the Year Fives they have played with this year and others coming through will maintain the high standards the they have set this season.
U9 Boys’ & Girls’ Cricket v RGS The Grange
This week’s fixture at RGS The Grange took place on a uniquely shaped astroturf pitch. Our team, who have had an impressive season, adapted well and gave another excellent performance. They had to be particularly alert in the field as the ball sped off the artificial surface. Our cricketers had to show a full range of defensive and attacking stroke-play against some aggressive bowling. It has been a great season for a team that has worked well together, with strong contributions across the board. All should be delighted with some excellent individual contributions with bat and ball.
