U8 and U9 Netball vs RGS Springfield
On Tuesday afternoon, fourteen enthusiastic U8 and U9 netball players headed to RGS Springfield to play in a mixed 4-a-side tournament. As the girls arrived, the heavens opened, but this didn’t dampen the girls’ spirits. The girls were split into three teams, with Indie, Bella, Izzy, Annie and Ariana leading their teams and helping build the Year Threes’ understanding of the game, both whilst on court and from the side-lines.
The girls were dominant in all of their games, with improved, impressive attacks, quickly getting the ball from one end of the court to the other. On the red team, Bella and Aurelia showed great teamwork, with both girls scoring a combined total of 12 goals in their five games. Over on the white team, Ariana, Izzy and Tilly used their speed and accurate passing to get the ball down the court, with Tilly scoring six goals, demonstrating much improved accuracy, as well as taking her time to shoot. Sophia showed confidence and found space well. The non-bib team held their own with one fewer player, meaning all girls played in all matches. Annie and Persie worked well together, with both girls finding space when attacking, quickly sending the ball down the court and leaving little chance for the opposition to intercept. Persie demonstrated fantastic technique when landing with the ball, quickly correcting her stance to give her the best chance at shooting, scoring 11 goals herself! Sylvie really impressed both Mrs Beech and Miss Lake with her enthusiasm and improving skills, as well as Chaya, Georgia, Evelyn and Fearne, who all showed increasing understanding of the game and found good space at times.
A huge thank you to all the parents who were courtside to support our girls. Your presence is always greatly appreciated.
U9 Netball vs The Downs Malvern
On Tuesday, two mixed teams of U8 and U9 girls travelled away to Malvern The Downs to play netball in drizzly, wet conditions. The ‘bus journey was particularly entertaining, with the girls very much enjoying each other’s company.
The girls showed an excellent understanding of positions and the areas in which they are allowed to be on the court. Simi and Charlotte showed some lovely teamwork in the centre, and Maysie-Jayne particularly impressed with her sharp movement off the ball, creating space and plenty of opportunities for her team. They are really developing their knowledge and understanding of the game, building in confidence week on week.
They worked the ball well from one end of the court to the other, with some really nice, accurate passing. There were some spectacular interceptions from Elise, Florrie, Rosie and Ellie.
There were lots of goals scored by a number of girls, including Eleanor, Robyn and Charlotte, once again showing that practice pays off.
Despite the weather, the girls showed buckets of determination and resilience, not letting the dreary conditions affect their play and performance, resulting in a great team effort to achieve a resounding win for both teams.
The opposition awarded Player of the Match to Zara Orgee and Jasmine Orgee.
A huge thank you to all the parents who braved the weather to support the girls; it is always very much appreciated.
U8 and U9 football vs The Elms & Winterfold
On Tuesday afternoon, our U8 and U9 boys travelled to Colwall for a triangular tournament of football matches alongside teams from The Elms and Winterfold. Despite the wet conditions, it was wonderful to see the Hawford boys continuing to make super progress with their appreciation of space and positional discipline on the pitch. The U8 boys continued to play some really nice football, scoring several impressive goals throughout the afternoon. The U9 boys also made lots of progress, and Mr Hodgkins was especially impressed with the performances of Freddie W and Louis Y in defence. Another highlight of the afternoon was a wonderful solo goal from Arthur G.
U11 Hymers College Rugby 7s Tournament
On Tuesday, a group of King’s Hawford U11 boys travelled up to Hull to join with their counterparts from King’s St Alban’s and compete in the Hymer’s College Junior School 7s tournament. The A squad played some scintillating rugby throughout the group stages, scoring 15 tries and only conceding one, making a mockery of the horrific weather conditions. They finished the afternoon by playing in the final against a very organised, efficient St Peter’s York side, who managed to win by two tries to nil in a very even contest. The B team played courageously, showing very impressive resilience throughout. Their rugby improved over the course of the day, with their performance in their final game being their best by some distance.
