Samba Comes to the KSA: A Carnival of Rhythm and Energy
This week, our younger pupils enjoyed an unforgettable musical experience as the chapel was transformed into a vibrant celebration of sound, movement and colour during a series of Samba drumming workshops led by Nick Ledbury from the UK percussion group Glamba.
Nursery, Reception and Year 3 pupils were immersed in the lively spirit of the Rio Carnival, learning authentic samba rhythms while playing a variety of drums and percussion instruments. From the very first beat, the energy was infectious as pupils explored rhythm, tempo and teamwork, working together to create bold and exciting performances.
Each session was filled with movement and creativity, with pupils dancing along to the music and taking part in a joyful carnival-style parade that brought huge smiles and laughter. A playful twist on the familiar “We Will Rock You” rhythm added an extra layer of excitement, helping pupils connect new rhythms with something they already knew.
The workshops were bursting with enthusiasm, confidence and collaboration, turning the chapel into a festival of music and movement. It was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to experience music from another culture in a hands-on and memorable way, and everyone left feeling inspired and energised.
A huge thank you to Nick for delivering such dynamic and engaging sessions, a wonderful celebration of music, creativity and the joyful spirit of Brazil.
