Shapes, Sparks and Smiles in Reception
Reception have had a wonderful start to the new half term, returning to school full of enthusiasm, curiosity and smiles! It’s been a busy and exciting week packed with hands-on learning, outdoor adventures and plenty of creative fun.
On Tuesday, as part of their maths focus on shape, the children donned their explorer hats and set off on a shape hunt around the school grounds. With clipboards in hand and eyes peeled, they searched high and low for circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles hidden in everyday objects. The children were brilliant at spotting shapes in the most unexpected places and confidently described what they found using the correct mathematical vocabulary.
Later in the week, Reception continued their outdoor learning in our Forest School area. Inspired by Bonfire Night, the children took part in a word hunt, finding and reading themed words hidden among the trees and leaves. They then channelled their creativity to produce stunning, colourful firework art, complete with bursts of sparkle and plenty of imagination!
It’s been a fantastic week of learning through exploration and play. The children have shown such enthusiasm, teamwork and creativity a wonderful way to begin the new half term!
