Shining a Light on Focus in Year 3
This week, Year 3 have been exploring what it means to be present in the moment and how we can focus our attention in different ways. As part of their learning in PAWS B, pupils took part in a practical and engaging activity using a torch to help visualise how focus can change.
They discovered that when the torch is held close, the light creates a small, tight beam, helping us concentrate on one specific detail. When the torch is moved further away, the beam becomes much wider, allowing us to take in more of what is around us. This simple but powerful visual helped pupils understand the difference between narrow focus and wide focus, and how both can be useful in different situations.
There were lots of thoughtful and enthusiastic discussions as pupils shared ideas about when it might be helpful to focus closely on one thing, and when it is better to step back and see the bigger picture. Year 3 showed excellent reflection skills and made some really mature observations about their own learning and attention.
Well done, Year 3, for such insightful thinking and fantastic participation in this important lesson.
