Singing, Playing and Learning French in Reception
Reception absolutely love their weekly French lessons with Madame Kilbey! This term they have been learning the French words for parts of the body, using the much-loved song “La tête, les épaules, les genoux et les pieds” to support their learning. The children especially enjoyed singing along as the song got faster and faster, lots of laughter and enthusiasm filled the classroom! Singing songs in a foreign language is a fantastic way to help children remember new vocabulary and practise accurate pronunciation.
Reception also enjoy playing Jacques a dit (Simon Says), which gives them the chance to listen carefully, follow instructions and confidently use their new French words in a fun and active way. One highlight of the week was when Finnan lay very still while the class drew around him and carefully labelled the different parts of the body in French. The children then met their own ‘little people’, thoughtfully adding les yeux, le nez and la bouche. Next, they will be adding colour and learning how to introduce themselves in French.
A brilliant mix of language learning, creativity and fun well done Reception!
