King's St Alban's
25 April
Smashing start to the cricket season.
U10 Cricket v RGS Springfield
The sun made a very welcome appearance for the first cricket match of the summer term and, after a short journey over to RGS Springfield, the children were raring to get started and put their various different bowling, batting and fielding skills into practise in a match situation.
King’s St Alban’s elected to bowl first and immediately showed their strength when bowling; Harry, Ben, Yifei, Charlotte and Georgia all took one wicket, whilst Freddy and Zara both took two wickets during their respective bowling spells.
With RGS Springfield scoring a respectable 215 for 8 wickets, the target was laid down for the St Alban’s girls and boys to try to beat.
Batting in pairs, the team demonstrated some impressive batting skills, with all of the children striking the ball well and running effectively between the wickets. Several children, including Archie, Ben and Ivy, also scored four runs by hitting the ball past the boundary, prompting plenty of “oohs” and “wows” from the delighted spectators. Jake also batted well and showed good teamwork throughout the match.
At the end of the innings, St Alban’s finished with an impressive 269 for 3 wickets, a great result for the children in their first match of this term. Well done to Charlotte, Georgia, Zara, Ivy, Yifei, Archie, Harry, Ben, Jake and Freddy, who all represented St Alban’s really well. Thank you to the parents, grandparents and other spectators who all helped to add to the atmosphere and make it a very enjoyable afternoon. Let’s hope the weather is as kind to us for the rest of our cricket fixtures this term!
U11 Cricket v RGS Springfield
It was a brilliant start to the cricket term for this mixed U11 team. We travelled over to RGS Springfield on a lovely, sunny Wednesday afternoon. Our captain for the day, Emily S, won the toss and chose to bowl first. We kept a very tight line and length and didn’t give many extras away. Well done to Emily, Lottie and Ellie, who all picked up wickets. Special mention goes to Ellie, who bowled a fantastic wicket maiden over. The King’s St Alban’s team restricted the RGS run tally to 232. We then batted well and hit a number of impressive boundaries. Tom and Henry demonstrated good technique with the bat and added some crucial boundaries to the score. We finished the 10 overs on 264. It was a great game, played in a fantastic manner. The team have identified a few things to work on going forward, including backing up the wicket keeper and bowler in the field and communicating more when we are batting. Well done!
