U8A and B and U9C Netball v RGS The Grange
On Tuesday our Year 3 and 4 girls played RGS The Grange. It was a fun filled afternoon of frantic netball. Our Year 4 group played 5-a-side; this is only the second time they have played in set positions, and we were particularly impressed with how they remembered where they were allowed on court. A particular shout-out goes to Mia, who showed some real grit around the court and made some excellent interceptions. Well done to Tilly as she was awarded Player of the Match.
Our Year 3 B team played four quarters and showed great progress with their passing skills. Well done to Kasvika, who scored, and to Cerys, who was awarded Player of the Match.
Our Year 3 A team have had a magnificent season and have completed the season unbeaten! After the first quarter the score was 2-2 and it might have been thought that they had a real challenge on their hands, but they stepped up and achieved a good lead by the end of the game. They work exceptionally well together as a team, and it is a while since we have seen such a tenacious group of girls. Well done to Romi, who was awarded Player of the Match.
U9 A and B Netball v RGS The Grange
The girls had a wonderful last match against friendly rivals RGS The Grange. It was clear how much their passing and movement has come on this term. The girls should be very proud of their 2 wins. Marnie, Zara and Madie move the ball nicely up the court when attacking and Charlotte, Skye and Emma were never ending in their defensive work. In the B team, Georgia, Yifei and Phoebe tried hard in defence and Ariya, Ivy and Sophia tried to move the ball towards the goal. Excellent effort from everyone – well done! Well done to OPOMs Marnie and Yifei.
U10A Netball v RGS The Grange
This was a poor match for the girls; they were cold and wet before they started, and many were struggling to catch the slippery ball. Their heads went down as they splashed around the court and although they did have a number of shots on goal, they could not score. It was difficult to keep their morale up, but they did not give up and showed some real resilience in awful conditions. Well done to Millie, who was awarded Player of the Match.
U10 B Netball v RGS The Grange
The B team showed great resilience in some very unpleasant weather. It was wet and it was cold, which makes netball a very difficult game to play! Phoebe E impressed with her tight marking, making lots of interceptions. KSA attacked well and created scoring opportunities. However, our shots weren’t on target (perhaps it was the numb fingers!) and this is something we will go away and work on. The girls tried their best in the challenging conditions but eventually lost 5-0.
U10 C Netball v RGS The Grange
The U10 C team didn’t let the rain stop them on Wednesday. They started the match confidently, with both Shreya and Aelwyn scoring in the first quarter. With each rotation of players, the team continued to attack and defend well. Their shooting was excellent and they fully deserved their 5-1 win. Well done, girls!
U10D Netball v RGS The Grange
We were particularly impressed with these girls on Wednesday. In the pouring rain, they played their hearts out for the full four quarters. They made a slightly slow start and allowed RGS get ahead 3-1 in the first quarter; well done to Alice for scoring our first goal. They all then started to mark their player more tightly and made some pleasing interceptions of the ball; Florence was especially good in this regard. In the third quarter, Suzi got an excellent shot on goal, making it 3-2. In the last quarter we had most of the play, but we just couldn’t get the shot in. Well done to Florence who was awarded Player of the Match.
U11 A and B Netball v RGS The Grange
The two teams had a super last match against RGS The Grange. Unfortunately, again the weather as against and the girls were fairly wet and cold by the time they came onto the court. However, it didn’t dampen their spirits. It was one of the few matches where we looked at trialling the girls into the same positions and to keep them there. It worked well in parts and as they move through into the senior school the girls well have preferences and positions where they play better. All 18 girls who played on Wednesday tried their best, well done to Emily, Erin, Sienna D, Ella, Eshal, Penny, Lucy , Mila and Evie in the A team, you rose to the challenge against a strong RGS team. Many of them were taller than us so we had to change our play accordingly. It was such a close game, a real nail biter, but we unfortunately lost 7-8, it could have gone either way. Well done to Emily who was awarded OPOM. The B team was similar in their tenacity despite the weather conditions, well done to Izzy, Tia, Katie, Iman, Sienna C, Annie, Ace, Georgina and Georgia, your determination paid off with a 5-3 win. Well done to Izzy who was awarded OPOM. I look forward to following their progress as they move through the senior school.
U9 v Winterfold, RGS and Moor Park
The boys showed that they have listened well to Mr Hooman’s advice over the past few weeks, leading to a marked improvement in performance in this festival. Louie and Mark made some good saves in goal and our goal kick tactical set ups were much better. George, Ben and the two Harrys were solid at the back, and we kept more shape as a team, passing to players in space. This allowed Luca to make some excellent runs down the left-hand side and he was able to play some great balls into the box for Archie and Will to run on to. They were able to put in a number of excellent shots, scoring some good goals. Hopefully, we can keep improving as we near the end of the season.
U9/8 v Winterfold, RGS and Moor Park
For this week’s fixture, the boys travelled to Winterfold for a football festival, and it was a very exciting afternoon of non-stop action. The boys played three games and displayed excellent teamwork and enthusiasm in each of the games. Their positioning on the pitch is improving and creating space when in possession of the ball is developing well. Che-David, Zach and Albert had a game each in goal, and played very well when in the outfield, with Che-David displaying some excellent passing skills. Crispin had another fantastic afternoon in defence, sharing the back line with Ben D and Henry, who also pushed forwards well. Jasper displayed good effort levels in attack, chasing every ball, and Albarn had another great performance on the right wing, scoring a wonderful goal in our final game. Well done boys!
U11 Rugby 7s Tournament at Hymers College
This is a tournament that we always contemplate entering and as soon as the boys were in the bus, chatting and building friendships, it was clear that we had made the correct choice in doing so! All of the boys involved in the tournament represented the School brilliantly. We were complimented on the way we played in nearly all of our games. During the group we played Ashville, Hymers A, Hymers B, Aysgarth, St Peter’s, Scarborough College, Birkdale and Yarm. We finished the group in second place, winning six, drawing one and losing one. We just missed out in the semi-final against Ashville in a extremely close-fought battle. Well done to Harry B, William D, Rook T and Peter U.
U11 v RGS The Grange
On a very wet afternoon on the school playing fields, the Year 6 boys played a great game of football against an evenly matched RGS The Grange team. Jack made some great saves in very difficult conditions, and Will and Harry defended well at the back. Ivan displayed good effort levels on the wing and in defence, and Barnaby worked very hard to win the ball in midfield. Mortimer and Eddie tackled well in the middle of the pitch, passing the ball well. Leo and Charlie performed well up front, with Charlie getting on the score sheet once again; with an excellent assist from Peter he scored a great goal to put the boys 1-0 up. In the second half, the opposition got themselves into the lead and King’s St Alban’s pushed hard to score again. The boys were very unlucky not to draw the game after some great through balls from Peter and excellent work on the left wing from Harry. Well done boys!
U10 v RGS The Grange
The U10 boys came up against a strong RGS team on Wednesday afternoon. It was a tight game, with chances at both ends. Theo S was brilliant in goal and has shown significant improvement through the football term. The KSA team started with a back three that included Sam T, Jack P and Tom B. They made important tackles and were not afraid to put their body in the way of the ball. Francis and Reuben both did a stint in the middle of the park. We couldn’t have asked for more; they were everywhere on the pitch, putting in great tackles and shifting the ball from side to side. Monty, Rook and Aaron used their pace and strength to push down the wings and get the ball into the box. Joshua did well up top, making well-timed runs and getting on the end of a number of through balls. As a team, we have again highlighted a few things to work on going forward and will hopefully take that into our games at the RGS Festival next week.
U10 v RGS The Grange
Our U10s had a stormer of an afternoon, playing RGS the Grange at home. In slippery conditions, the boys were certainly up for the challenge. Arslan S started in goal, pulling off some incredible saves and distributing the ball well to keep the game flowing. Our starting defensive partnership of Wilf S and Jacob B were fantastic, stopping the RGS attack stone dead. James A had a stint on the wing before putting on the gloves. He was technical in both positions and his enthusiasm was remarkable. Rory S and George B played everywhere up front and were both a constant presence in attack. Our standout players were Joel B, Otto E and Will R, who each put in a tremendous performance. Joel B started in the midfield and ran the game while offering the link from the defence to the attack. Later, he went into the defence and was solid. Our two danger men up front were Will R and Otto E, who both had hattricks at the end of the game. They showed clinical finishing and brilliant vision in attack. All in all, it was a glowing performance by the boys, well done!
