King’s Hawford Sport Round up of the week

U10 and U11 Winterfold Athletics

Mr Hodgkins’s Team

On Monday afternoon, 21 children from across year 5 and 6 took part in the annual Winterfold athletics competition at The Ryland Centre in Bromsgrove. It was a fantastic opportunity for the boys and girls who, for many, it was their first ever experience of representing the school at a proper athletics meet. The children pitted their skills and athleticism against peers from several schools from around the region. As ever, the focus of each competitor in their specific disciplines was to strive to achieve and beat their personal best scores, whether that be in a throw, jump or on the track.

The Hawford boys and girls teams’ performed superbly with multiple children not only achieving personal bests but also recording IAPS qualifying times, heights and distances. It was lovely for the children to be cheered on by pupils and staff from both Kings St Albans and Kings Worcester, both of whom also had teams competing, making for a real sense of cohesion across the foundation.

Whilst all of the children performed brilliantly and did themselves and the school proud, a special mention must go to the boys’ team, whose impressive points total enabled them to secure third place overall.

U9 Girls v The Blue Coat School

Mrs Butt’s Team

The team was Captained by Connie and following the toss were into bat first. Ellie M and Fearne B opened the batting with some confident running laying down a solid eight runs after the first two overs. Despite facing some tough bowling Connie and Alanna both found the boundary for four adding vital runs to the board.

The team were defending 254 as they went into bowl. There was some fantastic bowling from several of the girls. Alanna, Fearne, Sylvie and Connie all took wickets with their accurate bowling and Ffion, Evelyn and Sophia kept thing tight in the field. The girls showed some real progress this week and should be proud of their achievements against a strong Blue Coat side. Alanna was named Bowler of the match’s, Connie was names batter of the match and Ellie M was named fielder of the match. Overall it was a great team effort with lots to build on for the next game.
