Sporting Highlights Of The Week
U10 & U11 Hockey at Winterfold
On Tuesday we took five teams to Winterfold for an exciting day of competitive matches, and the girls gained plenty of valuable pitch time.
It was fantastic to see them playing with such enthusiasm and skill, scoring lots of goals and having a great deal of fun in the process.
The weather was finally on our side, with some welcome sunshine brightening the day and adding to the enjoyable atmosphere. A key highlight was watching our Year 3 players join forces with Year 4s in the same team. This gave the younger players a chance to step up, learn from their older teammates, and make a significant contribution to the games.
Addy K and Maysie L stepped up to play with the U11 girls and played their hearts out. They slotted straight into the team with Maysie making some fantastic tackles and cleared the ball well from the D.
Bella P, Abi T, and Annie W showcased impressive hockey skills, expertly utilizing the wings during play. A special mention goes to Bella P, who dominated in her team’s second game.
The day at Winterfold was a wonderful opportunity to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience. The girls should feel incredibly proud of their efforts. Thank you to everyone who supported the teams—your encouragement made the day even more special. We’re already looking forward to the next match!
U8 & U9 Hockey at Winterfold
The Year 3 and 4 girls played their final fixture of the season against Winterfold School, showcasing the skills they’ve developed throughout the term.
The girls were split into five teams, with three teams mixing players from both year groups, allowing everyone a chance to shine on the pitch.
Special mention goes to Alice H and Bella W from Year 3, who played with the U9 teams, taking on opponents a year older. Their performance was outstanding. Maddie P and Fearne B also stood out in their respective teams, making significant contributions to their squads.
The final game was a great reflection of the girls’ hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the season. It was an exciting, competitive match that brought the season to a memorable close. Well done to all the players for their dedication and achievements this year!

Under 10 Rugby – Warwick Prep
In a hard fought battle against Warwick on Monday, here at King’s Hawford, our under 10 boys showed huge resilience to come back against strong opposition.
Running in an all important try at the very end of the game. JJ, HJ and CH drove the team forward and AR made yards down the wing, but the outstanding performance this week was LY, who was first to most of the breakdowns to win the ball for his teammates to use.
U8 Tag Rugby festival at RGS The Grange
This week marked the final U8 tag rugby festival of the term.
It has been a superb term for the year 3 boys in which they have made huge amounts of progress in their rugby-specific skill levels, understanding and game awareness. The final festival saw the Hawford boys pitted against their peers from Hereford Cathedral School, Winterfold and RGS The Grange. The boys worked really hard as a team and showcased their skills in attack, scoring several tries, as well as demonstrating improved shape and commitment in defence. It has been a pleasure to see them embrace tag rugby throughout this term, always eager to improve and always playing in the right spirit with smiles across their faces
Under 9 Rugby at St Alban’s Festival
A small posse of our Under 9 boys travelled to Winterfold on Tuesday to play in the St Alban’s Festival.
The boys played some excellent rugby with CW the stand out performer, ably assisted by TH, RT and IH. The highlight was a free flowing game against Hereford Cathedral School, in which King’s Hawford played some superb attacking rugby with excellent support play.
Under 11 Rugby Vs Blue Coat
The Under 11’s played some of their best Rugby this season against a physical Blue Coat side with some strong runners.
King’s Hawford took an early and, what looked like unassailable lead. They did not have the game all their own way, however, as the opposition had a purple patch in which they scored three tries unopposed. The King’s Hawford boys were quickly into their stride again, finishing the game off as strongly as they started. There were a number of excellent performances and it would be wrong to single out individuals in what was an excellent team performance.
