Sporting Highlights of the Week

Tuesday 17th March

U9/8 Football v Winterfold

It was a tough afternoon for the U8/9s against a very strong Winterfold side, but the boys worked hard throughout and showed real determination. Our best moments came when we took a positive first touch and passed into space. Theo and Ivan combined well down the right, and Fin worked tirelessly in defence with several key tackles. A move that typified the afternoon saw Wilf make an excellent run to create a great chance, only to be denied by a superbly timed Winterfold slide tackle. The highlight, though, was Archie’s perfectly weighted cross to the far post, finished clinically by Ivan.

U9/8 Football v Winterfold

The U8/9 B team delivered an outstanding performance this weekend, securing an impressive 3–0 victory over Winterfold. From the first whistle, the team showed great energy, teamwork, and determination, setting the tone for a dominant display.

Going forward, the attacking play was full of confidence and creativity. Pheonix B was a constant threat and got on the scoresheet, while Sam R led the line brilliantly, scoring twice to cap off a superb individual performance. The team’s ability to create chances and convert them proved to be the difference on the day.

At the back, the defensive unit was just as strong. James G put in a solid performance in defence, reading the game well and making important interventions to keep the opposition at bay. Behind him, Magson C was excellent in goal, making key saves and showing great composure to secure a clean sheet.

Overall, it was a fantastic team performance, with every player contributing to a well-earned win. The effort, attitude, and teamwork on display should make everyone proud. Well done to all involved!

U9/8 Football v Winterfold

On Tuesday afternoon, the Year 3 and 4 boys made the short journey over the river to play three matches against Winterfold School at King’s School Worcester’s Cinderella Ground. Archie, Akshay, Rory, Ben P, Edward, Xander and Ben W combined to form the team, and put in a valiant effort throughout this match.

With Winterfold fielding nine players, one of their boys very kindly volunteered to play in goal for St. Alban’s, allowing all players to enjoy a full game. The St. Alban’s team showed great teamwork and resilience, working hard in defence and demonstrating some good defensive skills to keep the scoreline down in the first third.

Akshay put in a particularly strong defensive performance, while Ben P, Edward and Ben W worked tirelessly across the pitch, contributing in both attack and defence as they looked to move the ball forward to Xander and Rory. The team made several promising advances and were unfortunate not to convert a couple of good chances, with Winterfold scrambling the ball off the goal line on more than one occasion.

Despite St. Alban’s efforts, Winterfold managed to score several goals during the second third. However, St. Alban’s responded well and were rewarded with a well-deserved goal of their own. The boys continued to press forward and showed excellent determination right up until the final whistle, but Winterfold ultimately secured the win.

Although the result did not go their way, it was a valuable learning experience for the team, highlighting the importance of taking chances in front of goal.

Well done to all the players and thank you to the parents who came along to support and cheer on the teams.

U9/8 Netball v RGS The Grange

The U9/U8 team put in a determined performance against RGS The Grange this week, starting the match with great energy and focus. We moved the ball confidently through the court and created several strong attacking opportunities, but unfortunately struggled to find our rhythm in the shooting circle early on. RGS capitalised on their chances and built a steady lead, although our girls showed excellent resilience and kept pushing forward. As the game progressed, we settled and managed to score a couple of well‑worked goals, demonstrating improved timing, movement, and teamwork.

Despite the final score of 3–9, the team should be proud of their efforts, positive attitude, and persistence throughout the match. A special well‑done goes to Tiegan, who was awarded Player of the Match for her hard work and defensive interceptions.

We now look forward to our final fixture next week, ready to put everything we’ve learnt this year into practice.

U9/U8 Netball v RGS The Grange

The U8/9 team enjoyed a fantastic fixture against RGS, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination from start to finish. It was a brilliant display of effort across the court, with all players contributing and supporting one another throughout the game.

A special mention goes to Olivia E for her excellent speed and movement. She worked tirelessly up and down the court, consistently getting into fantastic space to receive the ball and helping to drive play forward. Her ability to create options and support her teammates made a real difference in transition from defence to attack.

Nell H also deserves special recognition for her outstanding determination. She gave 100% effort from the first whistle to the very last, never giving up on any play. Her persistence and work rate were inspiring, and she played an important role in keeping the team motivated and competitive throughout.

Overall, it was a wonderful team performance, with great progress shown in positioning, passing, and teamwork. Well done to all players for their effort and positive attitude, an excellent match to build on for the future.

Wednesday 18th March

U11 Football v RGS

In glorious spring sunshine, King’s St Albans U11s secured a hard‑fought 1–0 victory over RGS in a competitive and entertaining fixture.

King’s started brightly, moving the ball well and applying early pressure. Their positive play was rewarded after just 10 minutes when Zack showed great composure inside the box, calmly slotting home the opening goal to give King’s a deserved lead.

The second half saw RGS come out strongly, piling on sustained pressure as they searched for an equaliser. The entire King’s team worked tirelessly off the ball, showing real grit and determination to protect their advantage. As the game entered its closing stages, Hugo produced several outstanding, match‑winning saves to keep RGS at bay and ensure King’s held on for the victory.

It was a superb team effort from start to finish, with every player contributing to a well‑earned win in perfect playing conditions.

U10 Football v RGS

The Year 5 and 6 boys made the short journey up The Tything on Wednesday afternoon to face RGS The Grange, enjoying glorious conditions that set the stage for an excellent afternoon of football. Spirits were high on the minibus, and the boys were challenged to channel their energy into their performance on the pitch – something the U10 A team certainly delivered on.

Following a motivational pre-match team talk to get the boys fired up for the match, King’s St. Alban’s made a flying start. Matthew opened the scoring within the first few minutes, quickly followed by a well-taken goal from Eli. Matthew then added his second to make it 3–0 within just 15 minutes. At the back, Dylan, Max, and Monty were once again resolute in defence, while Theo and Eli worked tirelessly in midfield, contributing both offensively and defensively. Jack stood out for his exceptional teamwork, appearing to be involved in nearly every phase of play, and Haadi impressed in goal with a series of confident saves and strong command of his area.

With St. Alban’s dominating possession and territory, the boys were briefly subbed off the pitch for five minutes at a time to give them a quick rest as well as helping to try and balance the match out a bit. However, this did little to disrupt their momentum, as Jack converted a penalty – after being fouled in the box – to give St. Alban’s a 4–0 lead at half-time.

At the break, the boys were reminded not to become complacent and to approach the second half as if the score were 0–0. This proved crucial as RGS The Grange responded with determination and managed to pull a goal back early in the second half. Although Haadi made a remarkable goal-line clearance, the referee judged the ball to have crossed the line, despite appearing otherwise.

Undeterred, King’s St. Alban’s continued to apply pressure, and Matthew completed a well-deserved hat-trick to extend the lead to 5-1. With the result looking secure, Matthew moved into defence, giving the team an opportunity to gain valuable experience in different positions – an adjustment that proved to be quite beneficial.

Despite conceding a late second goal, the boys maintained their attacking intent until the final whistle, securing a convincing 5-2 victory. This result was particularly pleasing from a coach’s perspective, given the team’s outstanding performance and the progress they have shown this term and the boys’ ability to put the skills that they have learnt into practice throughout this match.

It really was a true team effort, with all players contributing superbly: Dylan, Eli, Haadi, Jack, Matthew, Max C, Monty, and Theo should all be very proud of their efforts. The match also served as a valuable reminder of the importance of a positive mindset, with the boys demonstrating just how effective they can be when they approach each game with confidence and determination.

Finally, a big thank you to all the spectators who came along to support the team in the sunshine – as always, your support and encouragement is very much appreciated.

U10 Football v RGS

The Under 10B side produced an excellent set of performances across two fixtures, showing resilience, teamwork, and attacking quality in equal measure.

In a tightly contested match against Winterfold, the team battled to an impressive 3–2 victory. It was a game full of determination, with the players showing great character to edge out their opponents. Goals from Harvey M, Jeremiah L, and George N ensured the win, each finish highlighting the team’s growing confidence in front of goal. The defensive unit also played a key role, holding firm under pressure in the closing stages to secure the result.

The second match saw the team at their very best against RGS The Grange. From the outset, the players controlled the game with sharp passing and relentless energy. Harvey M added another two goals to his tally with composed finishes, while Jeremiah L was in sensational form, scoring four goals in a standout attacking display. The team’s movement and unselfish play were evident throughout, creating numerous chances and maintaining pressure from start to finish.

Player of the Day deservedly goes to Jeremiah L, whose incredible return from injury made a huge impact across both games. His goal-scoring ability, work rate, and overall contribution were outstanding and played a major part in the team’s success.

Overall, it was a fantastic set of performances, reflecting the team’s progress and positive attitude.

U10 Netball v RGS

The U10 team enjoyed a great afternoon in lovely sunny conditions as they took on RGS, making the most of the weather with an energetic and enthusiastic performance.

A standout feature of the game was the exceptional defensive partnership of Aria G and Sophie R. Their communication and awareness worked brilliantly in tandem, allowing them to apply consistent pressure and create multiple turnovers. Time and again, they read the play well, intercepting passes and quickly transitioning the ball back into attack. Their teamwork was a real highlight and played a key role in keeping the opposition under pressure throughout the match.

Iris L also had an outstanding game, demonstrating her versatility and all-round ability. She made a strong impact both in attack and defence, showcasing a wide range of skills. Whether driving forward to create scoring opportunities or tracking back to support defensively, Iris showed great energy, awareness, and composure. Her ability to contribute effectively in multiple areas of the court was impressive to watch.

Overall, it was a brilliant team effort, with all players contributing positively. The match showed great progress in teamwork, decision-making, and confidence on the ball. Well done to the whole squad for their effort and sportsmanship—this was a performance to be proud of.

U10 B Netball v RGS The Grange

KSA U10 B faced RGS The Grange on a sunny spring day, with the warmer conditions a change from the winter weather the girls have been used to.

It was a very close start, with just 1–0 separating the teams after the first quarter. RGS pulled ahead in the second quarter, but KSA responded well, delivering a competitive third quarter. KSA were unlucky not to add to the scoreline despite having several shots at goal.

The girls showed great determination to win the final quarter 1–0, continuing to improve as the match progressed. However, it wasn’t quite enough to secure the overall win, with tighter marking still an area for development.

Vicky and Amber were named Opposition Players of the Match.

A strong effort on a warm spring day—well done, girls!

U11 Netball v RGS The Grange

The U11s delivered a committed and spirited performance in their match against RGS The Grange. The game began with great promise, as both teams moved the ball fluently and applied equal pressure at each end. For much of the first half the score remained 1–1, reflecting the balanced standard of play and the determination shown across the court. Although we created several strong shooting opportunities, we struggled to find the net at crucial moments, while RGS gained more goals under pressure. The final score of 2–7 does not accurately represent how closely matched the sides were overall.

Playing on the Astro in bright sunshine and breezy conditions made the fixture particularly challenging for shooters and defenders alike. Despite this, the team showed resilience and adaptability.

A special mention goes to Elizabeth, who made an excellent debut at GK, making numerous tips and disrupting RGS’s attacking flow with confidence and composure. Cerys also impressed with her improved positioning and stronger ball-handling skills, both contributing effectively to our transitions through the court.

Congratulations to Martha, awarded Defender of the Match, and Nell, named Attacker of the Match, for their consistent effort and impact.

Well done to the whole team for their determination, teamwork, and positive attitude throughout a tough fixture.
