Sports Day brings school community together

On Monday, the whole school community were delighted that the sun decided to shine on Sports Day. This year, for the first time we had the Pre-Prep Sports Day in the morning and the Pre School Sports Day in the afternoon, which meant it was quite a long day for some staff and the Year Five pupil helpers.

The day started with the sprint races. Opening the event, children from Nursery One to Year Two took it in turns to compete on the track in the flat sprints. Next up were some aptly titled “Skills Races”. Year Two showed off their resilience and stamina over 200m. Year One and Reception were then very creative with a spider walk race and the Nursery children demonstrated their excellent balancing skills with their bean bag balance race.

The focus of the morning was very much on having fun and the traditional egg and spoon race proved very popular. The morning concluded with the obstacle relays and it was wonderful to see all of the children enjoying the morning. Well done Pre-Prep and Nursery!

Taking advantage of having the Pre-Prep and Prep Sports Days on the same day, it was lovely to welcome the whole school community to enjoy a picnic lunch between the two events.

The Prep pupils were very excited about the afternoon but understandably there were a number of them who were also nervous and apprehensive. Teams are normally sorted ahead of the event; however, on the day Mrs Clark always encourages all pupils to compete. This year she was blown away by how many pupils decided to enter the events on the day. Many Houses had all their pupils enter the events and there was a fantastic team spirit between the age groups.

The day saw many excellent performances, but we must congratulate our two record breakers in particular: Rook T achieved an new record for the 600m with a time of 2:03.26, and Helena C did something that has never been done before as she broke three school records, which is a quite outstanding achievement. She ran the 80m in 11.68, the 600m in 2.06.22 and the 200m in 32.23. Very well done indeed, Helena, and indeed, very well done to each and every one who took part.

We look forward to having the whole school community together for future events.
