Sports Review: Emphasis on teamwork!

U8 Rugby Festival at King’s Hawford

This week the U8 rugby team participated in their second rugby festival of the season. The boys played in three exciting games against Warwick School, King’s Hawford and RGS Springfield, winning two games and drawing one. They displayed a big improvement in their skills, both while defending against the opposition and also when in possession of the ball. The support play has really improved, which emphasises the great teamwork between the boys. Zach made some good passes in the games and Henry, Jasper and Alban each made excellent runs with the ball. Alex is showing a good improvement in understanding the game and Ben made several excellent tags, defending well by closing down space. Well done boys!

U11 A v Bromsgrove and Monmouth

On Wednesday, The U11 Rugby team played both Monmouth and Bromsgrove in a triangular fixture. The first game was against Bromsgrove. There was a fantastic display of skill from both sides. We started off strongly, with impressive runs and tries from Harry B and Peter U. Eddie H made a strong start, using his strength to beat defenders. Connor R showed tremendous determination and strength, driving to the line through contact to score. Ralphie D, Mortimer D and Leo S all showcased some fantastic passing, a skill which we have been focusing on in training. In the second game against Monmouth, Will D used his impressive footwork to slip through the line on multiple occasions. Our defensive line was solid, with Charlie M, Barnaby J and Jack B making important tackles. Both the Monmouth and Bromsgrove attack presented a threat throughout the games, but all the boys were particularly impressive in the organising of the defence. Overall, it was a very successful event that gave the boys lots to be proud of, while also pointing out areas to work on. Well done boys!

U10A v Bromsgrove and Monmouth

On Wednesday we hosted a triangular tournament down at the games fields involving Bromsgrove and Monmouth. In both matches, the boys tried really hard and can be pleased with their efforts. In attack, Rook, Monty and Reuben had strong runs, and, at times, we managed some good offloads. Francis was also a busy presence. In defence, Tom and Theo led the way, with some strong tackling. Both matches were very competitive, and the boys learned lots of lessons to take into the rest of the season. It was a fantastic afternoon of rugby and the boys all left with smiles on their faces.

U10B v Bromsgrove

What a fantastic afternoon of rugby we enjoyed this week at Slingpool fields. The U10B team played in a very exciting game against Bromsgrove School. The boys displayed great teamwork throughout the game, with much improved rugby skills, to achieve a well-deserved victory.

In the first half, captained by Rory, the boys managed to attack the gaps in the opposition to score some excellent tries. Wilf captained the second half, where the boys really came into their game with outstanding performances by George, who scored a hat trick of tries, and Aaron and Joshua, who made numerous darting runs with the ball. What a great game this was, boys!

U8 Hockey Festival at Winterfold

The girls had a lovely afternoon at the Festival. They split into two teams and rotated the schools they played. This was played four-a-side, to enable the girls to create space and move the ball up the pitch. They all played superbly and were relentless in their determination to tackle and win the ball. Well done to all!

U11 IAPS Hockey at Cheltenham College

The U11 girls had a wonderful day at Cheltenham College on Thursday. They played four games in the pool stages, qualifying for the Bowl Competition. In the afternoon they played another two games to determine their position. They came join third in the Bowl. All the girls were amazing in their resilience and determination to improve their hockey. The first game was a steep learning curve and, once the girls had regrouped, they played some amazing hockey in the rest of the matches. The penultimate match was against King’s Hawford and the girls thoroughly enjoyed that and the chatting afterwards, as of course they’ll be playing together next year! A thoroughly enjoyable day and thank you to Mrs Miller-Symonds for also accompanying the girls.
