U10 Boys Rugby v King’s St Alban’s

On Wednesday, the Year 5 boys travelled to the Senior School sports pitches for rugby fixtures with King’s St Alban’s and the boys worked really hard to implement the skills and tactics that they have been developing in their recent games sessions.

Mr Hodgkins’s team produced a really dominant display, with a flurry of tries, thanks to agile and powerful running with the ball. The boys grew into the game and demonstrated excellent tackling skills. This was especially the case for Oscar, Evan and, Man of the Match winner, Archie. The team do need to continue to develop their rucking at the breakdown, however.

Meanwhile, Mr Stigant’s team were involved in an extremely close and entertaining match. The boys played with outstanding levels of energy and commitment, despite being frustrated by a strong and well-organised King’s St Alban’s side. Leighton and Christopher displayed especially impressive and powerful running, which enabled them consistently to break the line of the St Alban’s defence, whilst George M showed superb finishing skills.

We are looking forward to next week’s tests against RGS Springfield and Abberley.

U9 Rugby Festival at Abberley Hall

On Tuesday afternoon, the U9 boys travelled to Abberley Hall School for their second rugby festival of the term so far. They picked up from where they left off two weeks ago, with another string of fantastic performances. Mr Stigant’s team played with enthusiasm and commitment, especially when in possession of the ball, whilst Mr Hodgkins’s team continued to demonstrate superior tackling and defensive abilities against all opponents. There were super displays of athleticism on show from both sets of players that enabled multiple tries to be scored across the six matches. We would now like the boys to continue to develop their decision-making in possession and their passing away from contact in preparation for the next festival at Winterfold. We were very impressed by the performances of Finn, Freddie, George, Henry and Oliver in particular.

U9 Hockey (Training & Fixture) v King’s St Alban’s

On Tuesday, the U9 girls had the opportunity to train and play mini-fixtures with King’s St. Alban’s. All of the girls mixed together into six teams, where they took part in some skills-based practices, including dribbling and push-passing. The girls then took part in a round-robin tournament, with each game being an opportunity to play with new people, be coached from the side lines by the teachers and put skills they’d learned in Games lessons into practice. The afternoon was enjoyed by all and we’d like to thank King’s St. Alban’s for organising the event.
