Sports review: Highlight of the week!

U10 Girls’ Hockey Tournament at RGS The Grange

For many of our King’s Hawford children, sports fixtures are one of the highlights of the timetable, and this week was the first tournament for our U10 girls. On a sunny but windy afternoon, we travelled to RGS to play a selection of teams from across Worcestershire. Taking all the girls meant everyone saw time on the pitch and contributed to a super afternoon of hockey, with many positives to expand upon after half term.

In all, we played four matches. The girls applied pressure and pushed forward from the first blow of the whistle. Lovely passing out on the wing to Annabel saw her dribble into the D and score a splendid goal. Desperate for the equaliser, the opposition pushed forward but we showed off our strong defensive skills and Darcey displayed some excellent goal-keeping tactics to keep from them scoring. There were notable performances across all the matches from Harriet and Jetta in attack, supported by Annabel and Ava on the wing. In Defence, Robyn played extremely well and demonstrated some great tackling and distribution of the ball down the wing. All the players grew from being individuals to being part of a team, which we can build on in future matches.

Miss Holtham and Mrs Beech agreed that the Player of the Tournament was Darcey, the team goalkeeper. Her solid performance in goal saw her make a number of impressive saves and clearances.

U9 Boys Rugby Festival at Winterfold

On Tuesday the U9 boys travelled to Winterfold to take part in a rugby festival. The boys had a fantastic afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed their rugby. It was great to see the boys starting to put into practice what they have been learning in their games lessons this term. The teachers were particularly impressed with the boys worked the ball away from contact.
