Sports Review: Unpredictable weather doesn’t stop King’s Hawford
U9s Hockey Festival at Blue Coat
Tuesday was another day of unpredictable weather for a King’s Hawford team of girls just wanting to play hockey!
The seven girls travelled to Bluecoat to play in the annual festival, encountering five other teams. Rainy weather and dull skies did not dull the girls’ enthusiasm, and the pace was set from the first push back. The U9s demonstrated teamwork and gave a great performance, with several of the girls stepping up to illustrate leadership on the pitch. Millie, Pippa P and Elizabeth were a dominant force in attack, with our first goal coming within the first minute of play, a champagne goal from Millie! We passed the ball fantastically and play was supported well by the girls in defence.
It was a wonderful festival, where so much learning took place, and across the five matches played each of the girls rotated into two or more positions to gain maximum learning, experience and exposure, apart from Lily as goalie, who was on fantastic form all afternoon in her first game as goalkeeper.
In the majority of all the games we saw slick passing, support from the girls and our marking and decision making was quick and effective. With some stellar defending from Iza, Chloe and Pip K, our goalie Lily was rarely under pressure, but, when tested, her defensive, kicking and clearing skills were excellent. Tactics and hockey principles were learned, and it was so exciting to see the high fives on the pitch from the girls when goals were scored. This was a real team effort from everyone.
Mrs Beech and Miss Lake agreed that all the girls showed great determination on a chilly afternoon and should be proud of themselves and how they represented King’s Hawford. Brilliant work, girls!
