U11 County Hockey Tournament
The U11 girls rounded off their season in style at the County Hockey Tournament, competing against the very best teams in the area. This was the final competitive fixture of the term, and for the Year 6 girls it was the final time that they would represent King’s Hawford in hockey before moving up to Big King’s. The squad rose to the occasion magnificently, delivering their strongest performance yet.
From the first whistle, the team played with confidence, skill, and determination. Their passing was sharp, their positioning disciplined, and their teamwork outstanding. Vivienne and Ellie were unfazed as the only Year 5s in the team and gained valuable experience from the opportunity to play up with Year 6. Goals from Maysie-Jayne and Jasmine were the reward for some excellent attacking play, showcasing the progress the team have made throughout the season.
At the other end of the pitch, Annie was exceptional in goal, pulling off a series of crucial saves to keep the team in contention against tough opposition with Florrie and Charlotte working tirelessly in defence, maintaining composure under pressure.
Adelyn and Rosie made some great tackles and released the ball early up the wings to find Maysie-Jayne who was on fire throughout the tournament gaining the player of the match nomination from both the opposition and the coaches.
Mrs Butt could not be more delighted with how far this group has come. Their commitment and enthusiasm have been evident all term, and this tournament performance was a fitting culmination of their hard work. Well done to all the players for finishing the season on such a high!
U10 & U11 Hockey Triangular
For their final matches of the season, one U11 team and two U10 teams travelled to Droitwich to host a triangular with King’s St Alban’s and Malvern St James. It was a cold afternoon, but the girls showed great resilience, and it was wonderful to see their developing skills in action for the last time this season.
Mrs Beech’s U11 team, captained by Bella, enjoyed an exciting afternoon of hockey in a well-contested triangular. Their passing, movement, and teamwork shone throughout both matches, reflecting their excellent progress before moving on to Big King’s.
The opening game against King’s St Alban’s set the tone, with King’s Hawford showing quick passing and confident midfield play. A well-taken goal gave them the advantage, and although KSA countered strongly, Hawford held firm to score again from the top of the D and secure a competitive, energetic win.
The final match against Malvern St James was equally lively, with end-to-end play and chances at both goals. Hawford’s forwards combined well to test the MSJ defence, while MSJ countered with pace in wide areas. Both teams displayed excellent teamwork, resilience, and competitive spirit.
Mrs Halpin’s U10 team worked exceptionally hard across their fixtures. Aurelia was a key contributor, involved in several goals with her energetic attacking play. In goal, Tilly made outstanding saves, while Eleanor and Amelie supported strongly in both defence and attack. Against Malvern St James, Miss Lake’s team played with real flair, scoring brilliant goals through Ellie M and Fliss. Their second match versus King’s St Alban’s required stronger defensive play, and Connie and Fearne were excellent, clearing the ball confidently under pressure.
After a successful afternoon all around, the girls are now looking forward to Mrs Butt’s annual Tinsel Tournament on Monday afternoon – get those Christmas jumpers and reindeer antlers ready, girls!
Swimming
U10 & U11 Swimming Gala
King’s Hawford’s U10 and U11 swimmers travelled to King’s St Alban’s for their second gala of the year, competing against the hosts and Pitmaston Primary School. For several pupils, it was their first experience at this age category due to the fantastic number of children eager to represent the school.
The gala was highly competitive, with each heat won by a different school, making it almost impossible to predict the final points. There was excellent swimming throughout, with victories from Vivienne C, Zara O, Florrie W and Sam L-C, who all produced commanding swims in their individual events.
Both the girls’ and boys’ relay teams were impressive, showing great teamwork and determination to finish in strong second places. Special mention must also go to Fliss M-B, Eleanor N, Rupert T, Daisy E, Charlotte F, Louis Y and Arthur G, all of whom put in tremendous efforts, many narrowly beaten in thrilling, near dead-heat races.
Every swimmer should feel incredibly proud of their performance. King’s Hawford B finished fourth overall, while King’s Hawford A secured an excellent second place – an outstanding achievement for the whole team.
