U10 vs RGS The Grange

King’s Hawford’s U10 girls made an excellent start to their hockey season in their first fixture against RGS The Grange.

Playing on a larger 7-a-side pitch for the first time, the girls adapted brilliantly to the extra space available. Miss Haldane was particularly impressed with how well the team managed the pitch, spreading out effectively and making good use of the wider areas throughout the match.

Bonita-May was deservedly nominated Player of the Match by the opposition. Her outstanding work rate, determination and willingness to make attacking runs caused problems for the RGS defence all game and helped drive the team forward.

In defence, Syrenna and Lily were both excellent, making a number of important tackles and clearances to keep the opposition at bay. Behind them, Jessica enjoyed a great debut in goal, showing confidence and composure in her first match between the posts.

Further forward, Indie and Bonnie combined well, linking up with some carefully timed passes to create attacking opportunities. Bonnie finished these chances superbly, scoring some excellent goals to reward the team’s attacking play.

Mia-Bella was particularly impressive in attack, demonstrating a natural instinct for finding space and showing some lovely individual skill when running with the ball. She has been a fantastic addition to the team.

Overall, it was a fantastic team performance and an excellent way to start the season. The players should be very proud of their efforts, and it was wonderful to see so much parental support cheering the team on from the sidelines throughout the match. Well done, girls!

U11 vs RGS The Grange

Miss Lake’s Team

Miss Lake’s U11 team made a pleasing and encouraging start to their hockey season with a hopeful performance against RGS The Grange. The girls showed great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the match, demonstrating some promising hockey skills as they settled into the new season.

Fliss worked hard upfront, supported brilliantly by Rosie and Ellie M on the wings. The attacking trio created some good opportunities, with both Fliss and Georgia coming close to finding the back of the net. Their determination and movement gave the team some exciting moments going forward.

In defence, Sylvie delivered some brilliant tackles and followed these up with confident passes out of the D, helping the team to move the ball away from danger. Fearne was also particularly impressive, listening carefully to in-game coaching advice and putting it into practice. Her immediate application helped to reduce RGS’s opportunities to get into strong scoring positions.

It was lovely recognition of their efforts when RGS selected Fearne and Rosie as their Players of the Match. A very promising start to the season!

Mrs Butt’s Team 

King’s Hawford U11 girls opened their season with an encouraging performance against RGS The Grange, narrowly missing out on the result despite displaying excellent determination, teamwork and work-rate throughout the match.

Mrs Butt was particularly impressed with the commitment shown by every player. For the first game of the season, the team demonstrated huge potential and worked together brilliantly, supporting one another in both attack and defence.

In goal, Tilly produced a superb performance, making a number of exceptional saves to keep King’s Hawford in the contest. Her brilliant footwork and bravery under pressure stood out, and she thoroughly deserved being awarded Player of the Match by the opposition.

At the back, Simi and Amelie formed a strong defensive partnership. Both players made some excellent tackles and important clearances, helping to keep the opposition’s attacks under control and providing a solid foundation for the team.

In midfield, Vivienne was a constant attacking threat, driving the ball forward and creating several opportunities. On the wing, Ellie H held her position well throughout the game and provided a valuable outlet, helping the team transition from defence into attack.

Ffion played a crucial role across the pitch, offering strength in both attack and defence. Her hard work within the press was invaluable, helping to disrupt the opposition and support her teammates in all areas of the game.

Further forward, Aurelia and Elise worked tirelessly to pressure the opposition and force turnovers. Elise showed real tenacity in her pressing, while Aurelia demonstrated impressive speed with the ball, creating opportunities and keeping the opposition defence on alert.

This was a highly promising start to the season. The players’ teamwork, effort and positive attitude suggest there is plenty to look forward to in the weeks ahead. Well done to all involved.

U9 vs RGS The Grange and King’s St Alban’s

King’s Hawford U9 girls enjoyed their first hockey fixtures of the season on Wednesday afternoon, competing in a triangular tournament against RGS The Grange and King’s St Alban’s.

The girls approached the afternoon with tremendous enthusiasm and energy, showing great determination and teamwork from the very first whistle. As the tournament progressed, the team gained confidence with every match, becoming increasingly assured in possession and more effective in attack and defence.

There was plenty of impressive play on display throughout the afternoon, with all the players contributing positively and demonstrating the skills they have been developing in training. It was particularly pleasing to see the girls growing in confidence and supporting one another so well across both fixtures.

Congratulations go to Trixie W, Elise D and Olivia P, who were each named Player of the Match by the opposition teams in recognition of their outstanding performances.

A fantastic start to the hockey season for King’s Hawford, and we look forward to seeing the girls continue to develop and enjoy their hockey throughout the rest of the season ahead.

U8 vs RGS The Grange

The U8 girls travelled to RGS The Grange for their first fixture of the term. This event was very much a friendly festival, focused on coaching, learning the game, and developing skills through small-sided matches.

All the girls had a fantastic time, and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces throughout the afternoon. The players showed great enthusiasm and were eager to learn, making it a very positive first experience of the season.

In Mrs Halpin’s team, Casey impressed with her determination and willingness to listen to coaching points. She was not afraid to tackle for the ball and capped off her performance by scoring a well-deserved goal.

In Miss Lake’s team, Isla played very well and demonstrated how strong she is on the ball, showing great control and confidence throughout the games.

In Mrs Cranton’s team, Shanaya worked hard from start to finish and put in some excellent tackles, helping her team in both attack and defence.

Overall, we were very proud of all the girls. They represented the school brilliantly, and it will be great to see the progress they make over the course of the term.

Rugby 

U11 vs Blue Coat and RGS The Grange

On Wednesday, a combined King’s U11A team made up of boys from King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford took part in a rugby festival against Blue Coat and RGS The Grange.

The team played some excellent rugby and improved noticeably as the afternoon progressed, showing increasing confidence in both attack and defence. Cassian W was influential throughout, dictating play in attack and tackling fearlessly in defence. Joshy R was elusive with ball in hand and showed great determination when defending.

One of the highlights of the festival came when Charlie P-W scored a scintillating try after a superb passing move created the space for him to finish in style.

The boys represented King’s superbly, demonstrating excellent teamwork, skill and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.

U10 vs RGS The Grange

It was a fantastic afternoon for the King’s Foundation as King’s Hawford and King’s St Alban’s joined forces to create three mixed Year 5 teams for their fixtures against RGS The Grange.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the boys to strengthen friendships through sport while also benefiting from the wealth of rugby coaching knowledge and experience across both schools. All three teams showed tremendous commitment and enthusiasm throughout the afternoon, particularly in defence, where the boys tackled bravely and worked hard for one another in what was their first contact rugby match of the term.

There was also plenty to enjoy in attack, with some brilliant running with the ball, excellent support play and a fantastic ability to finish opportunities with some superb tries.

Mr Hodgkins was particularly impressed with the performances of Casper, Rupert, Chester and Alfie in his team, who all demonstrated excellent determination, skill and teamwork.

Meanwhile, William C was named Player of the Match in Mr Hooman’s team whilst a special mention should go to Leo and Rory who were both fantastic in only their second match for the school.

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of rugby and a great example of the benefits of bringing the two King’s prep schools together.
