Sports Round Up of the Week
U10 Hockey v Hallfield School
King’s Hawford was delighted to host Hallfield School from Birmingham for the U10 Hockey matches at the Droitwich Astro.
It was a very fast and action-packed match with both teams making numerous attacks on goal. Tilly made some tremendous saves clearing the ball wide of the goal for her team. Amelie B took some quick hit outs to gain the advantage finding Aurelia and Eleanor in midfield. Vivienne worked hard in the centre linking with Simi and Ellie H on a number of occasions.
The equalising goal came from a whole team attack with some beautiful passing hockey finished off in style by Eleanor N.
The opposition nominated Ellie H as player of the match for her overall contribution to the team which headed up a fantastic team performance.
U8 Boys Tag Rugby Festival at Winterfold
On Tuesday afternoon, the Year 3 boys from King’s Hawford travelled to Winterfold School to take part in a highly enjoyable and competitive tag rugby festival.
Both Mr Marsland’s and Mr Hodgkins’s teams played with tremendous spirit, focus and determination throughout their matches, demonstrating superb handling skills and a growing understanding of the game.
The boys’ hard work in training was clear to see. Their support play, accurate passing and relentless defensive organisation stood out in every fixture. Several coaches from other schools took the time to comment on just how impressive the King’s Hawford teams were – particularly praising their teamwork, commitment, and excellent defensive structure.
It was a fantastic afternoon of rugby, and all pupils represented the school brilliantly. We are already looking forward to the final festival of the rugby term next Tuesday afternoon at RGS The Grange.
U11 Boys IAPS Rugby at Ratcliffe College
On Wednesday, a group of U11 boys from King’s Hawford travelled to Ratcliffe College to take part in the IAPS Rugby Festival alongside their teammates from King’s St Alban’s. It was a long and demanding day, made particularly testing by the cold conditions, but the boys showed outstanding commitment and determination throughout.
Their rugby was superb from the very first whistle. Defensively, the team were organised, disciplined, and relentless, making it extremely difficult for opponents to break through. In attack, the boys displayed excellent composure and creativity, stringing together several impressive passages of play to score a number of well-worked tries.
Across the seven matches, the King’s team faced tough opposition from Blue Coat, The Elms Nottingham, Nottingham High, Fairfield, Ratcliffe College, Laxton Junior and Leicester Grammar School. The boys rose to every challenge, winning six of their seven fixtures – a tremendous achievement at this level.
It was a thoroughly impressive day of rugby, and every player should be extremely proud of their performance and attitude.
