Sports Round Up of the Week
Hockey
U9s
Miss Lake’s U9 team showed great determination in a challenging match against The Blue Coat School.
Alice was outstanding, making superb tackles, driving the ball forward with control, and scoring all of the team’s goals. Bella impressed in both attack and defence, using her strength effectively in tackles. Rosie continued to shine, demonstrating her growing confidence and skill on the ball. For the second game in a row, she was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ – a remarkable achievement in only her second fixture.
Despite strong opposition, the girls showed resilience and left the game with clear training goals to build on.
Mrs Beech’s Year 4 hockey team put on a determined and spirited display in their match against Bluecoat. From the very first whistle, the girls showed real resilience, keeping their heads up and working hard for one another throughout the game.
As the match progressed, confidence never wavered, and we began to see some spirited attacking play that pushed Bluecoat back into their own half.
One of the biggest improvements came in the team’s use of width and strength in passes. By spreading the play and looking for passes into space, the girls were able to create more opportunities and link together some lovely passages of play. Their teamwork and communication also developed as the game went on, which made a huge difference.
There is still plenty to work on in games lessons, such as decision-making under pressure and keeping possession, but the determination and positive attitude shown by the team was excellent.
Mrs Beech was very impressed with the girls’ efforts and the way they supported each other from start to finish. A special mention goes to Martha, who was voted Player of the Match for her energy, commitment, and excellent play.
Mrs Butt’s U9 team grew in confidence throughout their match against a well drilled Blue Coat side.
Syrenna and Maddie were a formidable defensive team showing strength in their tackles and tremendous clearances. The pace of their passing really picked up as the games went on. Lily worked hard to keep up with the increasing pace of play running up and down the wing for her team to put pressure on the opposition.
Jessica and Bonita-May both enjoyed the attacking role and increasingly found space behind the Blue Coat defenders. Georgina worked hard throughout, demonstrating some super attacking runs and having several shooting opportunities.
Maddie P was nominated ‘Player of the Match’ by the opposition contributing to a great team effort overall, the girls have made huge progress over the two matches played to date and look forward to the fixtures ahead.
Rugby
U8s
Two buses of very excited Year Three boys set off for Winterfold on Tuesday afternoon for their first ever rugby fixtures, representing King’s Hawford. Nerves and trepidation were evident at the promise of the big stage – that was just the staff.
Once split into two teams, the boys went about their business in superb fashion, with both teams performing brilliantly in their three games, coming away with very well-deserved results, including some thumping victories.
Tries and tags were the order of the day, with every boy contributing to the cause. It was a great start to the boys’ competitive sporting careers at Hawford, and bodes well for an exciting future.
Thank you to the many parents who turned out and gave your support, it was hugely appreciated.
