King's Hawford

Sporting Round up of The Week
King’s Hawford vs Moor Park.
Mr Butt’s Team
A sunny afternoon and a perfect track on the Main Square awaited our visitors from Shropshire. Skipper Lyra welcomed the opposition and then proceeded to win the toss with an excellent choice of paper, defeating rock, and choosing to bowl first. Pip and Iza opened the bowling, taking a wicket between them, before our first change pair of Lyra and George P-W took the next three wickets, Lyra stunning the opposition balcony into silence with a wicket maiden. George C and Freddie kept it tight with their overs before Liv and Thea finished things off with a valuable wicket in the final over, a superb direct hit from Pip. Target was 242 for the win, and seemingly doable, we were positive. Little did we know but Moor Park had several ace bowlers up their sleeve, with an economy which would have been the envy of finance ministers the world over. Lyra again contributed well with the bat, striking some lusty blows to the boundary, and going into the final pair of Thea and Liv we were just about in touch. We had to take risks and a sharp stumping from their keeper stopped our momentum in its tracks, and the game was Moor Park’s, by 11 runs. Deserved Player of the Match went to Lyra for her all-round contribution.
Mrs Butt’s Team
Mrs Butt’s team hosted Moor Park School on the King’s Hawford lower field. Olivia W led the team as Captain and opted to field putting Moor Park into bat first. There was some fantastic bowling on show with wickets taken by Olivia W, Jess K, Alex A and two in a row from Elizabeth. The fielders kept things tight keeping Moor Park to 242 runs.
Charles and Alex opened the batting for the team and chipped away at the score with some clever running. Olivia W and Chloe T proved to be a very effective batting pair stealing runs at every opportunity and communicating excellently between the wickets. Elizabeth and Jess both made excellent contact with bat and ball with Elizabeth hitting three 4’s in her nine balls. Some individual performances were highlighted by the opposition. Alex A was nominated best bowler, Elizabeth N was nominated best batter and Olivia W was nominated best fielder. Overall, it was a fantastic team effort that took the win with an excellent display of sportsmanship.
Mrs Beech’s U11 Cricket Team
Under glorious Worcestershire sunshine, Kings Hawford hosted Moor Park in an exciting Under-11 Incrediball cricket fixture that proved to be a superb display of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship from both sides.
King’s Hawford, captained by Noah, ended the afternoon with a commanding total of 305 runs, thanks to some explosive batting performances from Noah and Jude and sharp running between the wickets from Nayel and Chloe S. Every member of the team contributed, with boundaries shared around and several partnerships blossoming (Mary & Sophie, Ben & Barnaby) throughout the innings. The batters showed not just aggression but also fine technique and composure, giving spectators a real treat.
In the field, Kings Hawford were just as impressive. They claimed 4 wickets and held onto 4 excellent catches, each met with well-deserved applause. The bowlers kept their lines tight and their energy high, supported brilliantly by a focused and enthusiastic fielding unit. Barnaby claiming a wicket on his first bowl of the match, followed by Jude taking two fantastic catches in quick succession.
Moor Park showed real grit and determination throughout, with some fine batting of their own and committed fielding that kept the game competitive from start to finish. Their players played with spirit and skill, embodying the very best of school cricket.
The match was a celebration of school cricket – full of energy, positive play, mutual respect and enthusiastic staff members. Both schools should be immensely proud of the way their teams performed. It was a lovely afternoon of cricket, played in the right spirit, under blue skies – a perfect day in the heart of Worcestershire.
Fielder of the Match was awarded to Noah
Batswoman of the Match was awarded to Mary
King’s Hawford Vs RGS The Grange
Mrs Lakes Team
Miss Lake’s U10 cricket team played against RGS The Grange on their astro this week, a change from the usual grass fields. Captain Robyn won the toss and chose to field. Nicholas and Henry opened the innings with some lovely bowling, though RGS batted confidently and made good calls, choosing wisely when to run. Excellent fielding from Georgia and Henry led to two stumpings in the third over, followed by two wickets in the fourth from Izzy. Bella bowled another batter out in the penultimate over, whilst Nicholas stopped two near-boundary balls with brilliant fielding. When batting, RGS’s accurate bowling meant few extra runs granted through wide and no balls, so our batters really had to be on their A-game. Ruby impressed all coaches with two boundaries in the fourth and fifth over, and Bella hit another in the final over of the afternoon. The game finished with an extremely close scoreline. RGS nominated Robyn as ‘batter of the match’, whilst Georgia received ‘bowler of the match’.
Mr Hodgkins Team
On Wednesday afternoon all of the year 5 children travelled to RGS The Grange for their second cricket matches of the term. Mr Hodgkins’s team, captained by Florrie W, fielded first and produced a strong performance with the ball in hand. The highlights of the innings included Florrie taking a wicket on the very first ball of the match, Valeria M bowling a superb spell, that included a second-ball wicket in her hardball debut for the school, Charlotte F outwitting the batter with a superb inswinger and Jasmine O affecting a run out with a highly impressive and accurate throw that hit the stumps from 25 yards away. In amongst these highlights were some impressive shots from the RGS batting line up, that included several powerfully struck legside hooks for four runs. This enabled RGS to post a challenging target.
In our batting innings, the Hawford children worked hard and demonstrated enviable character, grit and determination against a barrage of very fast and consistent bowling. Despite a couple of early wickets through miscommunication and decision-making when running between the wickets, the Hawford batters showed themselves to be strong in defence and frustrated the RGS bowling attack who, despite being very difficult to score against, were unable to break through with any further wickets in the final nine overs of the match. The batting highlights included a superbly timed shot over midwicket from Will G. The ball flew right to the boundary, bouncing just inside of the rope for an impressive four runs.
Mr Hodgkins’s player of the match was Jasmine O.
