Sports Stars enjoy Successful Start to Season

With the new academic year well under way, our pupils were excited to get back into action on the sports pitches. This week our rugby and hockey teams have made a strong start to the new season.

U11 Hockey vs Bromsgrove & KSA

The U11s played well in their first hockey matches of the term against Bromsgrove and King’s St Alban’s. For three girls it was their first time playing hockey for Hawford and they did super-duper well.

The whole team tried hard and communicated well during the games. Shouts-out go to Ava H and Sienna, who were chosen as players of the match and offered great dribbling and goal attempts, Darcy who saved many goals as goalkeeper, Sienna for strong powerful passes and tackling and Ava I for her midfield play and tackling. All the U11 girls were brilliant.

The other team were good opponents and we’ll keep working hard on our skills to show how good Hawford hockey girls are.

An incredible effort was put in on Wednesday afternoon at Bromsgrove School. For our first game of this term we offered maximum effort against an equally strong Bromsgrove team. Every single player persevered and gave it their all, with the score line not reflecting the determination of our players. In our second game we came back fighting against King’s St Alban’s! With great tackles and excellent passes showing impressive teamwork, we succeeded in securing a draw for King’s Hawford. Overall, each individual player put in their all and we represented our school with pride.

It was an excellent first outing of the season for the U11 girls and an opportunity to see them playing a competitive fixture for the first time this season. I was impressed by the work-rate and determination from each of the girls on the pitch, particularly against a strong Bromsgrove side. We executed our short-corner routines well, having practiced them in Club the day before, and showed real promise in attack, scoring a number of goals.

I would like to give a special mention to Hattie and Sienna, who have joined the School this year; they made an excellent first impression on the pitch and are wonderful additions to the King’s Hawford U11 Squad.

All the girls were great ambassadors for the School, and I am very much looking forward to our next fixture and seeing them progress and build as a team this season.

U10 Hockey vs Bromsgrove & KSA

It was a scorching hot day in Bromsgrove, but we still played well in our first match of the season. Millie B and Marnie P made some brilliant passes and scored some great goals. Our use of space could be improved but our attack was great.

Pippa P was good on the wing and Mary W was a fab goalkeeper. Jess made some strong passes and Pip K played brilliantly in defence along with myself and Elizabeth N.

On a hot autumn day the U10 A team travelled to Bromsgrove School. We played a triangular hockey tournament against Bromsgrove and KSA.

It was an excellent team performance, with everyone holding their position well and working really hard to tackle and get the ball.

There were a lot of goals from many different girls, including Pippa P making a beautiful goal from the top of the D, Olivia G scoring a powerful goal to beat the goalkeeper, and Marnie and I also getting on the score-sheet several times.

A special mention goes to Mary W, our amazing goalkeeper, for saving lots of goals; because KSA did not have a goalkeeper Mary stepped in for KSA and was a hero!

Match Report From Mrs Beech

An excited group of children boarded the bus to Bromsgrove School for an afternoon of hockey, their first fixture of the season.

Our fitness and positional understanding were tested from the first whistle, with a lot of running to do, trying to remember where each player should go on the pitch. The girls all had a chance to have a go in a couple of different positions to enhance their learning and improve their self-confidence. It was lovely to see the girls adapting and demonstrating new skills

Millie performed brilliantly as a wing for the first time, scoring a superb goal mid game. She was supported well by Marnie and Pippa P in attack and Elizabeth and Iza in defence, who played well, clearing the ball from the goal line on several occasions. Jess K and Pip K worked hard in midfield positions, providing excellent support to defence and attacking players.

The team was assertive and physical when playing and showed good pace on the ball, with a good array of meaningful runs into the attacking D.

We saw fantastic effort from all the girls, playing on a fast surface. None was afraid to demonstrate hard tackling, and all had gritty determination, which shows promise for games to come.

Overall, it was a great afternoon of hockey. Mrs Beech and Mrs Butt saw some real positives, with the shape beginning to develop in attack and defence.

U11 Elms Rugby 7s Festival.

The rugby term started on Saturday with the Under 11 boys taking part in The Elms 7s festival. Given that the boys had only been back at school three days, the quality of the rugby they produced was fabulous. They played with pace and commitment showing huge promise for the term ahead.
