Sports teams raring to go after half term break
U8 RGS The Grange Hockey Tournament:
Mrs Beech’s Team:
A mixture of ‘experienced’ U8’s and some of the team playing festival hockey for the first time, combined brilliantly at the R.G.S Hockey Festival to come away with wins and a draw from their matches. The festival was the first of the season and considering some in the team had only picked up a hockey stick for the first time six weeks ago, there was some lovely team hockey on show.
This young team of Aurelia, Ellie H, Ffion, Persie, and Eleanor have progressed enormously over the half term and it was great to see the improved stickwork and passing.
From the first whistle the team started playing full of confidence, showing some really good skills, particularly their tackling which at times was immense, which then led to some great attacking and supporting one another.
Despite some tired young legs at the end, the team thoroughly enjoyed themselves and this was shown in their often free flowing hockey that culminated in 12 goals for and 3 against.
Ellie H was chosen twice by other teams as player of the match and I have chosen Aurelia as Coach player for her superb reverse stick skills, and her abundance of goals!
Thank you to the families and friends who came to support.
U11 v Hymers College:
It was a wonderful, shower filled day where we welcomed Hymers College to King’s Hawford for a morning of netball.
The girls (with limited netball this term) were able to put in to practice their knowledge of the rules with fastback line and sideline plays and quick breaks from penalty passes. All the girls showed strong spirits and great team work, communicating fantastically on court and starting to read how and where each other would move. This resulted in fantastic goals scored by Holly and Sienna. We had a strong defence with Annabel and Harriet B and our centre court play was dominated by Jetta, Hattie and Robyn.
As a netball coach, I am looking forward to next season where we can focus on our attacking play and quicken up our centre passes.
Hymers player of the game went to the Holly.
Coach player of the match went to Sienna and Annabel.
Well played everyone.
