Spring Term Chess Club Winners Announced

It’s been another busy term with a total of 35 children attending the lunchtime chess clubs at school.

The children have played against each other in separate tournaments for each year group. While the games have been competitive, behaviour has been very good and the children have demonstrated good sportsmanship.

Jonty was a clear winner in year 3 and won all the games he played against other year 3 children.

Sammy was a convincing winner in year 4, although both Felix and Alex did well in second and third place.

The year 5 chess competition was particularly exciting. Will led the competition into the final week, but Amelie caught up in the last session with some excellent wins. The final result was a tie with Amelie and Will both finishing with excellent scores of 41 points out of 48. Amelie was unlucky not to be the individual winner as she still had one game unplayed.

In year 6 Austin won impressively, winning all the games he played. However, several other children showed significant improvements in their chess this term and the year 6 tournament overall was very competitive.

A few of the children have competed in external chess competitions and there are more tournaments coming up over the next few months. Further information on these will be available soon.

A local junior chess tournament (the Worcestershire Megafinal) is due to be held at the University of Worcester at the end of June. Further details will be available soon or parents can look on this website.
