Staying Safe with Medicines in Year 2

Year 2 are continuing their learning on Healthy Eating and Growth, and this week they focused on an important and practical topic: medicines and staying safe. Pupils enjoyed sharing their own experiences of visiting the doctor and taking medicine, which led to some thoughtful and sensible discussions.

Together, they explored why it is important that only trusted adults give medicine, why the correct dosage matters, and why medicines and tablets must always be kept out of children’s reach. The class showed great maturity in understanding how medicine can help us when used properly, but can also be dangerous if not handled safely.

To finish the lesson, pupils designed eye-catching medicine safety posters, helping to reinforce the key messages in a creative way. There was also lots of curiosity and fascination when they noticed the Braille on different medicine boxes and discussed why this is so important.

A really valuable and engaging lesson, with Year 2 showing excellent understanding and responsibility.
