Stepping Back in Time: Exploring Ancient Egyptian Society in Year 3

Year 3 have been delving into their history learning by exploring Ancient Egyptian society and discovering how it was structured. Pupils learned about the different roles within society, ordering them from the most important members, such as the Pharaoh, through to peasants and slaves. This helped pupils to understand how society was organised and how power and responsibility were shared.

Through class discussions and historical sources, pupils explored the reasons behind this order of importance. They learned why the Pharaoh was seen as the most powerful figure, how priests and nobles played important roles, and how soldiers, craftsmen, farmers and slaves all contributed to the running of Ancient Egyptian life. Pupils were encouraged to think carefully about fairness, leadership and how people’s roles affected their daily lives.

To support their understanding, pupils created detailed pyramid drawings to represent the social hierarchy. These visual representations helped pupils to clearly show the structure of society and explain why each group was placed where it was. Great care and creativity were shown in these drawings, with pupils using labels and descriptions to demonstrate their learning.

It has been fantastic to see such enthusiasm, curiosity and thoughtful discussion throughout this topic.
