Summer has arrived for cricket fixtures

Girls’ IAPS Cricket (As told by the girls themselves)

Emily S (Captain) – Today was our last IAPS tournament. We had a great team and we all played well. I got a few wickets and, in our third match, I scored three Fours batting with Lottie S. Lottie S did some great bowling and took a wicket; she was my partner. I was proud of the perseverance in our batting. Ellie, Evie, Lottie S were awarded Player of the Match. Ellie and I got it three times. Shout outs to Helena, Lottie S and Laura for their consistent bowling, and for batting to Ellie, Lottie S, Helena and Millie. As the captain I was very proud of our team, and we did very well.

Evie R – Today we all played some great cricket and had an amazing time. Our day was full of laughter, and it is a day I will always remember. We enjoyed singing along to the songs in the ‘bus. Emily was an amazing coach. Ellie and Emily was awarded Player of the Match three times and I was very proud to get Player of the Match in one game. I had a great time with these beautiful girls.

Laura D – Today was great! I enjoyed every bit of it. Everyone supported each other and had an enthusiastic mindset.

Ellie B – Today’s IAPS was incredible! It was our last IAPS girls’ tournament. The playing was awesome, and we supported one another on and off the pitch.

Helena C – IAPS cricket was so much fun! All our matches were very close. Our first match was the best as we only lost by six runs to Warwick, who won the tournament. Our fielding improved and in the third match our batting got better. Although we lost it was the best cricket we have played. Millie and I batted together and scored a lot of Fours. We can all be proud of ourselves and it was a great day.

Lottie F – Today we had the Girls’ IAPS Cricket. Although we lost, we improved as a team. It was so much fun and it was such sunny weather. I had a great time and I’m sad that it is over.

Lottie S – Today’ s IAPS tournament was great! Our first two games were close. Our bowling was really good. In our first game we took four wickets. Our fielding was a bit clumsy, but Mrs Clark talked to us about how we needed to be backing up and walking in and in our next game our fielding was so much better. Although we didn’t win, we were happy with how we did. Emily and I batted together, we hit loads of Fours and ran some extra runs. There were loads of Sixes and Fours between the eight of us. Well done to everyone who played!

Millie – Today everyone gave it their best; even though we lost, everyone had fun. It was a great and we enjoyed the whole experience.

 

 

U11/10 Cricket v Hereford Cathedral

The excitement and chatter with each member of the King’s St Alban’s team was brilliant to see on our journey to Hereford Cathedral School on Wednesday afternoon. Reuben won the toss and chose to bowl first. We bowled exceptionally and we were also alert, loud and very tight in the field. The bowling figures were very good for the team and we were able to restrict Hereford Cathedral to 58 runs all out. A special mention goes to Harry S, who bowled a three-wicket maiden over!

We then went into bat with the main target to be sensible and keep each wicket, picking the correct balls from which to try to score. Harry S and Francis opened the batting and did exactly that, keeping the run-rate ticking along. Reuben came in next and was striking the ball impressively until unfortunately he was caught out behind with a fantastic catch by the opponents’ wicket keeper. We then lost a few easy wickets and the run-rate started to rise. Louie came in to bat and hit a lovely boundary on the offside. We just fell short of the total as we lost all of our wickets. It was a really exciting game; the children performed well and all seemed to enjoy their afternoon of cricket thoroughly!

 

U11/10 Cricket v Hereford Cathedral

The games fields enjoyed glorious sunshine this week for our cricket match against Hereford Cathedral School. We won the toss and opted to bowl. Virtually everyone in the team had an over and, on the whole, we didn’t give away many runs. Ben, Archie and Freddie were the pick of the bunch, each hitting the stumps and getting a batter out. We knew that the target was definitely within our grasp, but that we would have to bat well to achieve it; protecting our wickets would also be crucial. Rory and Jack started steadily, getting a few singles, and some runs from wides and no-balls. Importantly, they didn’t concede any wickets. Our next two pairs of Sam and Ivy, and Tom and Luca, upped the ante, getting a flurry of boundaries and singles between them. Will also manage a Four in his spell and the rest of the team saw us home, losing only one wicket across the whole team, which was a great achievement. This was an excellent game of cricket all round, played in great spirits.

 

U11/10 Cricket v Hereford Cathedral

The sun continued to shine for this week’s round of cricket matches, with the Under 11 C Team’s cricket fixture taking place at Hereford Cathedral School on Wednesday afternoon.

Captain Otto won the toss and chose to field first. Bowling and wicket keeping in pairs, the opening pair of Ethan and Otto bowled well to restrict Hereford Cathedral’s opening batsmen to 15 for no wickets. Henry and TJ were up next and managed to limit the batting team to only 10 runs for one wicket. Shreya and George both demonstrated some good bowling, only conceding 21 runs for one wicket. Brody and Harry were also a strong pairing, restricting the opposition to 12 runs for two wickets, whilst Arslan and Humphrey also bowled well against Hereford Cathedral’s strongest batting pair, who scored 31 runs and conceded one wicket.

This left the team from Hereford Cathedral on a final score of 68 for five wickets, a very respectable score, which the team from St Alban’s knew would be difficult to beat. After a team discussion between innings, the children recognised that they would need to be at their best and avoid making careless mistakes, such as indecisive calls and run outs, in order to win this match.

Requiring a total of 69 to win, the St Alban’s team had a tricky start to their run chase, with Otto and Ethan scoring 11 runs off their first three overs, but losing two wickets in the process. TJ and Henry batted well, hitting 14 runs for one wicket. George and Shreya also batted well together, scoring 12 runs for one wicket, whilst Harry and Brody scored a very respectable 15 runs for one wicket together.

Having already conceded five wickets, the last batting pair of Humphrey and Arslan knew that they needed to score plenty of runs in order to win the match, so they promptly set about this with gusto. The boys managed to score an impressive twenty runs between them. However, they paid the price for having to take risks in order to achieve the required amount of runs, when Arslan was caught out just inside the boundary.

The innings finished with King’s St Alban’s scoring 28 runs for nine wickets, which meant the result ended in a loss for the King’s St Alban’s team. Bearing in mind that the team lose five runs off their total for every wicket lost, it shows that both teams were quite close and that the result could quite easily have gone either way, if King’s St Alban’s hadn’t conceded so many wickets. Therefore, we will be working on the children’s decisiveness and communication with their partner when batting, in our upcoming Games lessons and cricket clubs.

Well done to Shreya, Henry, Otto, Humphrey, Brody, Harry, Arslan, TJ and Ethan who represented the school team very well, and thank you very much to the parents who came along to support the children on a very pleasant May afternoon.

 

U11/10 Cricket v Hereford Cathedral

It was a great day out for Miss Smith’s team on Wednesday. The afternoon saw some tremendous bowling from all pupils and it was clear that they have progressed as players and had taken on feedback from their Games sessions. Furthermore, there was some excellent batting performances across the board, with Uriah and Ana scoring a few boundaries between them. It was a good performance from the children involved and a really enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

 

U11/10 Cricket v Hereford Cathedral

On Wednesday 8th May, the King’s St Alban’s U10 C Team made the journey to face Hereford Cathedral School. Neither the location, adjacent to the River Wye, nor the weather could not have been better for cricket. King’s St Alban’s lost the toss, were put into bat, and a steady session saw KSA achieve a pleasing total of 239. In reply, Hereford Cathedral School put on a fine batting display to gain victory with a total of 263. Congratulations to all involved, but especially to the following pupils, nominated by the opposition, for their fine individual performances: Jacob, Charlotte, and Emma. 

 

U11/10 Cricket v Hereford Cathedral

It was a very sunny away day over at Slingpool Walk with the pupils in very good spirits. The captain Rosie won the toss and chose to field first, which allowed our excellent bowling to put us in a good position. We kept their score low, with an excellent ball from Esha being our first wicket. Tilly also bowled exceptionally, only allowing them to get three runs of her six balls. This then influenced our batting, with the team managing to get over 100 runs! Ruqayyah and Esha managed to grab our first boundary of the day and Jess and Sophia also batted excellently. The two teams then chose the best batter and fielder from the opposition school, with Sophia getting the Best Batter and Esha getting the Best Bowler.

 

U11/10 Cricket v Hereford Cathedral

Mrs Hand’s mixed cricket team had a fantastic match against Hereford Cathedral School. They all showed some great improvements in both their bowling and batting. Sebastian, in particular, bowled a superb over, and took a well-deserved wicket. Suzie also bowled some fast and accurate balls. Charlotte concluded the bowling for King’s St Alban’s with good line and length.

Aelwen and George both looked comfortable in the crease and hit a number of impressive shots when batting.
