Summer Show: Magical Night of Music and Dance

Anticipation filled the air at the John Moore Theatre on Tuesday evening as pupils and parents gathered for the much-awaited Prep School Summer Show. This annual event holds a special place in the King’s St Alban’s calendar, showcasing an extraordinary blend of music and dance that highlights the talents and hard work of our students.

The evening commenced with a series of performances from our dedicated musical ensembles, including the Orchestra, Wind Band, Chamber Choir, and String Group. These groups have been diligently preparing throughout the term, and their efforts culminated in a diverse and captivating musical experience for the audience. The Orchestra opened with the stirring ‘Pomp and Circumstance Marches Nos 1 and 4,’ setting a grand tone for the night. The Chamber Choir then delivered a haunting rendition of ‘Corner of the Sky,’ which was both ethereal and moving. The Wind Band captivated with the evocative ‘Chariots of Fire,’ and our Year 6 band brought tears to many eyes with their touching performance of ‘Shallow’ by Declan McKenna. This piece, expertly prepared by Ellie and Tom, with support from Jack, KSW, showcased their dedication and musical prowess.

The musical segment was followed by a vibrant performance from our Year 6 singing pupils, who delighted the audience with a dynamic ‘riff off.’ This medley, which included a variety of songs, concluded energetically with ‘Six,’ leaving the crowd exhilarated.

Dance Club took the stage next, stunning the audience with their rendition of ‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus. The club’s performance was a testament to their skill and dedication, featuring solos, duets, and group dances, many of which were choreographed by the students themselves. The dances ranged from the toe-tapping ‘Austin’ to the emotive ‘Cry,’ ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The show concluded with a spectacular grand finale featuring ‘You and Me’ by Take That, led by the Dance Club. This final performance brought all the participants back on stage, allowing them to bask in the well-deserved applause and bring the evening to a stylish close. The Prep School Summer Show was a resounding success, leaving everyone eagerly anticipating next year’s event.
