U9 Netball tournament at RGS The Grange
The girls had a wonderful afternoon over at RGS The Grange, competing in their first U9 tournament; we took six girls as we were playing five-a-side games. We had a really exciting first game; we were losing 1-2 but came back to draw the game 3-3 by the end. Our second game against Winterfold was a bit tougher; we lost to them 1-7, but they did go on to win the tournament. The girls had a lot to learn from that game, not least not letting their heads go down, focusing rather on their next game against The Elms. We started well, driving the ball down the court towards our attacking end; the shooters converted a fair few opportunities throughout the game and we ended up winning 8-0. All the goals counted as we went through to the next round on goal difference, having an even number of points with RGS. This meant we were second in our group, and playing second in the group from the other pool. We ended up against King’s Hawford for third/fourth place play-offs. We played well, but on this occasion Hawford were stronger. They had a couple of good shooters bringing the ball up nicely and converting most of their goals. We were very proud of the way the girls played against some tough competition. This will stand them in good stead for the future. Well done to Nell, Thea, Hannah, Martha, Romi and Edith for coming fourth in the tournament, after a super afternoon of netball.
U10A v The Downs Malvern
This Wednesday the U10A team played The Downs U11A team. Sadly, we lost 8-7, but we really enjoyed the game. We had some amazing shots from Madie and Georgia. Charlotte received the award for Player of the Match, but everyone played amazingly!

U10B v Malvern The Downs
On a very lovely afternoon, the Year 5 Girls’ B team played netball against The Downs and we drew 6-6. It was a very nice game and we all really enjoyed it. We had hotdogs for match tea. Phoebe was awarded Player of the Match and well done to Yifei for scoring three goals in one quarter.

U11 and U10 Netball triangular with Winterfold and King’s Hawford
The girls took part in a lovely afternoon of netball over at Winterfold in a triangular festival with Winterfold and King’s Hawford. The sun was shining and the girls rotated their positions, playing the Stingers format. The results were promising: narrow losses for the A Team and a draw for the B Team against Hawford, and a win against Winterfold. What was noticeable was the improvement in their footwork, passing and running forward for the ball. There was some super passages of play from both teams, and they should be proud of themselves with their game play. Well done to Shreya, Amélie and Ellie (x2) who were named as Opposition Players of the Match.
Tuesday 5th March
U9/8 Football v The Downs
Nine boys from Year 3 and 4 were invited to play in an Under 8 and 9 football match against a team from The Downs, Malvern, on Tuesday (5th) afternoon. The boys were in good spirits after the short journey over the Malvern Hills and got off to a great start, with Zack nearly scoring in the second minute. This match was a great opportunity for the boys who have been attending football club to put into practice some of the skills that they have been working on during training at the Cinderella ground. Henry put in another good performance in goal, making several great saves, showing that he is continuing to gain confidence and an increased understanding of goalkeeper positioning. Dylan also played well in his first match for this mixed age group team. Matthew and Jasper both tackled well when they played in defence, whilst Alban, Pip and Ben all did a great job of getting the ball up the pitch to Jeremiah and Zack, who both looked threatening in attack. King’s St. Alban’s had the majority of possession during the match, and despite the narrowness of The Downs’ goals, it felt as though it was only a matter of time before the team managed to get the ball in the opposition’s goal. However, some great last-ditch defence and point-blank saves from The Downs’ goalkeeper and defence somehow managed to prevent St. Alban’s from scoring, which meant the match finished in a 0-0 draw at full time. It was a great team performance overall, with plenty of positives to take from the game; notably the defensive and counter-attacking play that all of the boys demonstrated, along with the high level of effort, teamwork and determination that was apparent throughout the match. Well done to all of the boys – especially Ben who led by example, and a big thank you very much to all of the parents and grandparents who came along to watch.
Wednesday 6th March
U11 Football v The Downs and RGS Springfield
We welcomed RGS Springfield and The Downs to the King’s Cinderella fields on Wednesday afternoon for a triangular fixture. Harry S was superb in goal for both games and made a number of great reflex saves and he is also showing brilliant improvement with his distribution. Jonas, Joel and William R started in defence and were solid and kept their shape well. Jonas demonstrated his vision with the ball to pick out a few brilliant passes in behind the opposition defence. TJ, Otto, Aaron and Joshua played further forward and moved the ball around well. Otto used his pace to take on his opponents and deliver the ball into the area. They are becoming a brilliant team and work so well together. Well done!
U10A Football v King’s Hawford and Winterfold
Fresh from the range of different outdoor and adventurous activities that they had taken part in during their P.G.L. residential trip at Boreatton Park the previous week, the Year 5 boys were keen to implement the teamwork and leadership skills that had developed into their team performance on the football pitch. Having already played Winterfold School and King’s Hawford earlier in the term, the boys knew that they would all have to work together as a team and be at their best, if they were going to be successful – and they certainly did this!
All of the boys worked hard and tackled well in order to restrict a strong Winterfold team from having too much possession. Some great defence from Harry D in goal and Archie and Ben in defence prevented Winterfold from scoring, before a rather lucky strike saw Winterfold score directly from a corner. The boys were undeterred by this and Will and Arlo showed great determination in midfield to get the ball up the pitch to Uriah in attack. Despite having several chances, we were unable to score though, which meant the match finished in a narrow loss. Our next match against King’s Hawford followed a similar format, with the boys working well together and demonstrating some great dribbling and passing skills to get the ball into Hawford’s goal area. Unfortunately we weren’t quite able to get the ball across the goal line and into their goal. A mix up in communication when trying to clear the ball from our own penalty box allowed Hawford to capitalise and score the only goal of the match. So, despite the boys’ best efforts, the match finished in a 1-0 loss. The boys were rightly not disheartened at all though, as they recognised that they had all played really well together as a team and knew that they had definitely made notable progress since playing both of these teams in January. I was really impressed with the effort, commitment, passion and teamwork shown by everyone on the team and am grateful to all of the parents and spectators who came along to support the boys – thank you!
U10B Football v King’s Hawford and Winterfold
On Wednesday afternoon the U10Bs took part in two very competitive games against Winterfold and King’s Hawford. In both games the boys showed excellent teamwork and determination in both attack and defence. It was a performance both coaches were extremely proud of. There was a clear improvement since the last set of games, with the team putting together excellent interplay and made themselves very hard to break down in defence.
