Sun shines for Coronation Celebrations
On Tuesday we concluded our Coronation Celebrations here at King’s Hawford with a whole school picnic. The inclement weather resulted in a last minute venue change; celebrations were moved from the soggy top fields to the hard surface. Demonstrating their resilience and “can-do” attitude, pupils and staff quickly grabbed mats, picnic benches and cushions. With the addition of some Union Flag bunting and children dressed in red, blue and white, the area quickly gained a festive look.
It was wonderful to see the whole school gathered together. Our catering team had out done themselves proud, providing a delicious picnic lunch for all the children and staff. As the children tucked into their lunches, the sun shone and music played. It is events such as these that truly show what a special place Hawford is. Once all of the food had been eaten, the children quickly started playing an array of different games. A royal games of Chinese Whispers had one year group in fits of giggles, whilst Mrs Horrocks oversaw a nail-biting game of Fizz, Buzz, Bang.
Each year group then took it in turns to head to the ice-cream van. Here they were presented with the tough decision: a Mr Whippy, a Fruit Pastel Lolly or a Calippo? A hush descended over the hard surface as the children and staff enjoyed their ice-cream treats.
Over in Kindergarten, our youngest children in KG1 enjoyed their very own picnic. Sitting on mats in the courtyard, they tucked into sandwiches, crisps, fruit and sausage rolls. The courtyard was decked out in a wonderful array of bunting, which really helped to add to the party atmosphere.
Just as the final ice-cream was devoured, a few large drops of rain started to fall from the sky! Perfect timing: our Coronation Picnic had beaten the rain! The children beat a hasty retreat back to their classrooms, full of yummy food and brilliant Hawford memories.
