Superb Hawford Spirit At U10 and U11B Rugby Fixtures

U10 Rugby vs RGS Springfield & Winterfold

On Wednesday afternoon a group of U10 boys travelled to RGS Springfield for a triangular rugby festival, with Winterfold joining King’s Hawford and hosts RGS Springfield.

What ensued was a fantastic afternoon of rugby, played in great spirits, during which every child made outstanding progress. The tone was set very early on in the first match with Winterfold when Jasper P made a superb, textbook tackle in the first play of the game. The impact of this tackle lifted the entire team and kept the motivation levels high throughout the afternoon. The other boys soon followed suit with some strong tackles from Freddie and Arthur as well as Alex, who covered every blade of grass in a highly impressive and energetic defensive performance.

The King’s Hawford boys were similarly strong in attack with excellent handling, offloading and decision making skills on display from Henry and Nicholas coupled with speed and agile sidestepping from Freddie W, Jasper P and Arthur G. Alex A, meanwhile, continued his impressive afternoon with several powerful carries, regularly breaking through opponents tackles to score multiple outstanding tries. Mr Hodgkins was extremely pleased with the entire team’s efforts and performances across both matches. They listened to advice and easily met their targets to retain their width in attack whilst making strong tackles in defence.

U11B Rugby vs Winterfold

The U11B team performed very well against our purple-clad opponents from Winterfold, outclassing them in every facet of the game.

There were some crunching first-half tackles, in particular from Barnaby J, Freddie B and Finn M-P, who created turnover ball for George P-W, George C and Noah L, amongst others, to run in well-deserved scores. Ben B showed his power at the start of the second half, with a couple of bullocking runs, scoring one and creating another with a deft offload, and Thomas C and Nayel M-S added some serious gas as they outpaced the defence. The pick of the scores was probably Alex A’s second-half effort, which came from a sequence of five accurate passes. A solid all-round performance to lift the squad before the Welsh challenge.
