Tackling the Week: Rugby Recap and Results

U9 Rugby Festival at Winterfold – Mr Atkinson

On Tuesday we travelled across to Winterfold for a rugby festival against the hosts, RGS The Grange and Blue Coat. We started the tournament with an impressive performance against Blue Coat. The boys showed some excellent evasive running skills, with Dylan and Matthew scoring some good tries. Everyone also showed strong tackle technique, with Jack, Monty and Haadi, in particular getting opponents quickly to the floor. In the second game, against the Grange, Bertie managed to get his hands on the ball a bit more and made some good runs. As a team, we were also able to move the ball into space, again scoring some good tries. The last game, against Winterfold was definitely a step up with Winterfold putting together some excellent passages of play, which we can definitely learn from. All in all the boys can be really proud of their afternoon’s efforts, with some good learning moments to take forward into future weeks.

U9 Rugby Festival at Winterfold – Mr Hooman

The U9s took to the field at Winterfold for their rugby festival, showcasing their best performance of the season so far. The progress they’ve made over the term has been fantastic, and this event truly highlighted the leaps they’ve taken in skill, teamwork, and determination. The standard of rugby was outstanding throughout the afternoon. The team started strong with dynamic attacking play, scoring a number of tries in the opening match. However, the main focus was on improving their defence and tackling – and the hard work paid off. The boys showed real improvement in these areas, becoming more solid and structured as the festival went on.

George stood out for his powerful running, especially when straightening up and driving through the opposition’s defence. He consistently broke the line and was highly effective in making meters for his team.

One of the most exciting moments came when Rudy made a thrilling break against Blue Coat, nearly running the entire length of the pitch. Although he was tackled just before reaching the try line, he gained significant ground, setting up a strong attacking platform for his team.

Jeremiah was also instrumental in the team’s success, making a series of excellent tackles and consistently gaining ground. His unselfish play saw him assist in several team tries, driving close to the try line before passing to his teammates to finish off.

Harvey impressed with his fearless tackling technique and sheer determination, refusing to let go of his opponents until the job was done. His defensive efforts were key in keeping the opposition at bay.

It was also the best performance to date from Max and Daniel. Max was a force to be reckoned with in attack, scoring several tries with his excellent ball-handling skills. Daniel, named Player of the Match, was outstanding in defence, making a number of well-timed tackles and carrying the ball with confidence and strength.

Overall, the U9s can be incredibly proud of their efforts, with the festival marking a clear step forward in their development.

U11 and U10 Rugby v Moor Park – Mr Hooman

Unfortunately, this game was cancelled late on by Moor Park due to the roads surrounding Moor Park being flooded after torrential rain. We used Wednesday afternoon as an observational coaching afternoon, looking at tactics and when the rain stopped, we travelled down to watch King’s Worcester 1st 15 compete in the national cup against Warwick. The boys got a lot from this experience, and it was clear that they were all inspired to put on the 1st team jersey in the future!
