Teamwork to the fore for Year 2
Year 2 had a fantastic time at Boundless Outdoors in Malvern. For many of them, this was their first ever sleep-over, so there were lots of excited children! When we arrived, we were taken to North Block and shown to our dormitories. The children had to choose and make their beds, with help from their friends. Next we had a fire drill, so we were sure what to do in any emergency. Then we had our packed lunches and got ready for the afternoon’s activities. While we were getting our outdoor kit on, the “famous” teletubby suits, we started to hear a few rumbles of thunder and the sky turned quite dark! We made our way quickly back to the dormitories as the heavens opened and an electric storm broke out. We distracted ourselves with quiet indoor activities while we waited for the storm to pass. Eventually we emerged for our first activity, the low ropes, on which the children enjoyed challenging themselves with a selection of rope swings and balancing activities. They demonstrated excellent teamwork skills, taking turns and supporting their friends around the course. Next, the children were split into two groups for the second activity, high bridges or a wild wood walk. The children wore a harness and helmet for the high bridges activity; they were all extremely brave, conquering a high rope bridge and an Indiana Jones style bridge high up in the tree tops. During the wild wood walk, the children encountered different challenges, which they all embraced, including a swamp mud run and hiding from drop bears, to name but a few! The children were all very hungry at dinner time and had a well deserved hearty meal and rest. We enjoyed a bit of down time before bed, including some fun activities organised by Mrs Stenson, and finally a bedtime story and hot chocolate. The children eventually all fell asleep and woke up bright and early for Day Two!
We were treated to a delicious breakfast, ready for our busy morning ahead. The children were asked to make their own packed lunches for the day and they enjoyed choosing their own fillings independently and preparing their own sandwich! Both groups had fun doing bird orienteering; using a map they located different bird plaques in the woodland to spell out the name of a bird. Everyone showed excellent teamwork and listening skills. Finally they completed their final activity, the wild wood walk or high bridges, as the groups swapped over from Day One. The children all had a fantastic time and, although they were very tired when we arrived back at school, they all felt really happy. Well done Year 2; we are so proud of you all for embracing all the challenges!
