Thinktank Trip is out of this world
On Tuesday, the children in Year 2 enjoyed a trip to the Thinktank Museum in Birmingham. The trip helped kick start a new part to their topic work – Explorers. Year 2’s next venture in school takes them into space, learning about significant events such as the moon landing.
The trip started with a visit to the auditorium for space school. In this workshop, the children learnt about what an astronaut needs to survive in space, how they reach space in a rocket and what it might take for humans to live on Mars in the future.
Next, the children explored the different parts of the museum before they stopped for lunch. Pupils and staff enjoyed a nutritious school packed lunch, recharging their batteries ahead of a fun filled afternoon.
After lunch, pupil spent time in the planetarium. The children looked up and learnt about the stars in the night sky, stories about the constellations and the planets in our solar system.
After that, we relaxed with a play in the huge ‘Mini Brum’ soft play, pretending to be hairdressers, builders, and paramedics to name a few! A highlight of the day was the long, bendy, yellow slide.
Finally, pupils bid a fond farewell to the Thinktank and headed back to the coach with a custard cream or two in hand. During the journey back to school pupils discussed their highlights from the day and practiced their Christmas show songs.
A great day was had by all.
