Time Flies in Year 3!

This week, Year 3 have been diving into the fascinating topic of Time, a concept that’s more complex than it first appears! On Thursday, the children focused on understanding units of time, and had a fantastic, hands-on session that brought their learning to life.

Working in pairs, the class used stopwatches to measure how long different everyday activities took to complete. From running around the playground and walking around the quad ten times, to performing ten star jumps and writing their names, the pupils quickly realised just how varied time can be. They also timed themselves reading a page of a book, saying the word supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, singing Happy Birthday, and even timed the whole class saying “Good morning, Miss Woodger!”

It didn’t take long for the children to discover the importance of using the correct unit of time, seconds, minutes or even hours, depending on the activity. After all, writing your name certainly doesn’t take 10 minutes!

The session was bursting with curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving as pupils questioned, tested, and laughed their way through each challenge. It was a brilliant example of active learning, and the perfect way to build a deeper understanding of this tricky topic.

Well done, Year 3, you’ve certainly made every second count!
