Tournaments round-off excellent season of sport
U10 & U11 Warwick Prep Netball Tournament:
Very early on Saturday morning, a group of ten netballers from Years 5 and 6 boarded their minibus to Warwick Preparatory School.
The U10 and U11 girls have been working on playing 7-a-side and Bee Netball in preparation for the last tournament of the season. This was to be a joint tournament with King’s St Alban’s.
How they adapted to each position was the standout part of the morning, followed by some clear learning and development.
They were finally able to apply our coaching advice from lessons and training to the court. Most importantly, everyone had a really enjoyable morning!
Throughout the tournament, the U10s played six matches and the U11s played four against a variety of schools, all of which helped us to explore different game plans and strategies.
This was also the chance to play against schools with whom we do not have fixtures throughout term time.
In our first match we had plenty of energy, allowing us to play our best and resulting in a very positive score.
Regularly rotating the teams, King’s Hawford and King’s St Alban’s worked together very well, resulting in another positive score.
For the U11s, this was the first time they had played on a court with a full size (10ft) netball post and a size five ball, which is larger and heavier than that which they are used to.
The defence for both teams worked extremely hard, made many interceptions and jumped for the rebounds, something we have been working on a good deal in lessons.
Some of the games for both teams were challenging, which made all the girls think about the position in which they were playing and apply tactics they hadn’t previously used; all the positions made us think more about the accuracy of our passes.
With constant team talks and motivational words, we knew we had to remain focussed, although the prevailing Warwick winds were hampering our shooting success.
The attacking players were working extremely well, with some lovely slick passes into the D from both teams.
Throughout all the games we stayed calm and focused, playing to the best of our ability.
Mrs Beech and Mr Hodgkins were proud of all the girls and grateful to the parents, siblings and the King’s Worcester Senior Staff who came to support on a chilly, Saturday morning.
The girls should be incredibly happy with how they played as individuals and as a King’s Foundation Team.
