U10 Girls Cricket: A Strong Start to the Season

Wednesday 22nd April

U10 Girls Cricket v Monmouth

The U10 girls played their first match of the season against Monmouth along with the first bit of sun for the year! Bowling first, they showcased all their hard work from the winter, with everyone delivering some excellent line and length. Despite coming very close on several occasions, they were unlucky not to take their first wicket of the year against a strong batting line-up, who finished on 294.

In reply, Maddie and Imogen did a fantastic job against two opening bowlers who were both a year older, setting a solid foundation. The middle order of Elodie, Sophie, Lilliana, and Aria kept things moving with great running between the wickets and positive intent to score. With some strong hitting and determined running, the game came down to Savannah and Poppy at the end. Savannah struck the first boundaries of the day with powerful leg-side shots, well supported by Poppy’s smart rotation of the strike.

The girls finished just 15 runs short, which was a brilliant effort against a strong Monmouth side. They should be very proud of their performance, with everyone contributing with bat, ball, and in the field.

U10 Girls Cricket v Monmouth

The U10 Girls team took on Monmouth in a closely contested pairs cricket match, with the game providing a fantastic opportunity for the girls to continue developing their understanding of the format.

Batting first, the girls showed great determination and teamwork at the crease. Each pair contributed positively, with improved calling and running between the wickets a real highlight. The players are beginning to understand how to keep the scoreboard moving, even against tight bowling, and there were some confident shots played throughout the innings.

In the field, the team brought excellent energy and focus. They applied pressure well, particularly through some sharp and well executed run outs, which proved crucial in such a tight game. The girls also showed improving awareness with their positioning, backing up, and communication as the innings progressed.

Monmouth’s chase kept everyone on edge, with the match staying very close right through to the final pairs. The girls remained positive and supportive of one another, showing great team spirit and resilience in a tight contest.

Although the result was narrowly decided, the real success was the clear progress in understanding how pairs cricket works. From running between the wickets to applying pressure in the field, the development on show was excellent.

A strong performance in a very competitive game, well done to all the players!
